My 424MKIII is still going strong after 7 or 8 years--just mixed down some stuff into the computer last night. I also love the VLS21 powered monitors--IMO the best cheap speakers you can get. A friend brought over some Event 8" things while we were mixing one of his projects and we kept going back ...

Around 80 and then 60-65 and then 80 again.

I get a general mix at 80.
go to around 60-65 and balance it out.
then go back to see if it still sounds good loud.
if it does... I'm finished.

Or for you tape folks using a (Real) room verb... Run your source sound in at double speed, mic the room. Then slow tape back down and VOILA you have lengthened your rooms decay. My "echo chamber" sounds a bit like a well, but hey, it was fun! Johnny7 ps. This is a fun thread I do this with springs...

Does the Patch bay have the cards that you flip to change the normal? A friend of mine has a Nady patch bay and the function does not work on half of the cards. IF I were y?u I would spring for a better (Neutrik/switchcraft) patch bay. They can go for fairly cheep on Ebay. I got 2 Neutrik bays and 4...

I bought a Powercore card and the plugins included make the Waves stuff sound like toys. Toys is a good description. they do what they are made to do, but to me are a little cold and flavorless. They never seem to really improve the sound as much as just change it. I love the URS stuff and Izotope ...

Does anyone know waves policy on old "outdated" plugins.
I have a disk with a waves bundle on it from around 2001.
Other than that I haven't ever been blown away by the sound of Waves plugs and would rather use something else anyway. Some are even free.

it's the old pro signal chain. As in "that guy is 70 and his recordings sound great. Bypassing as many gain stages as you can in order to get the cleanest possible signal. It is like when people come straight out of mic pres into the tape machine skipping the console all together. It is a very pure ...

Incorrect. Tip never connects to ring. In order to un-ballance your TRS connector you connect ring to sleeve. you can connect inserts to a ballanced patchbay and it will work fine. I do it all the time. You are overthinking the inportance of the signal becoming unballanced ate the insert. It causes ...

It is a very easy thing to do as long as you are taking notes while tracking.

Then you have a EDL to work from and it takes minutes.

can you tell me a bit about it, or point me towards some info? i tried googling but couldn't find much concrete about it. I don't know a lot about it. I first encountered that style of Sennheiser at Clava here in Chicago (it was the 419 I think). I think Djimbe posts here from time to time and he i...

Other fave is a Sennheiser 405B/417/418. Thost sound amazing on everything. i just picked up a 405-S but know squat about it... is that the same thing? mine looks like a space lollipop. 405S is what I would have typed if I payed attention to what I was doing. That is the mic I am talking about. Enj...

lately i have been using the AT 2020 (cheep $100 MDC) about 3 inches in front of the grill of my 75 Quad Reverb (Bright switch off T:6, M:6, B:8, R:5) It is bright, thick, and ringy and I like it. Other than that I'd throw that shitty mic in the trash. They really suck. Other fave is a Sennheiser 40...

This may sound too simple but you said the INPUTS are assigned. Have you assigned your master output buss to the cards OUTPUTS? I assume you have but check it just in case. Other than that I am at a loss. I have been using SX3 and 2 delta 1010's for a while now and have had no such issues. Good luck.
