A pair of 10 k input bias resistors, a pair of 47 uf/63 V phantom bloking caps, a 10 ohm gain resistor and a reverse-log 2~5k gain pot does it. Add 4 1N752 zener diodes for surge protection. I tested all the chip preamps here on my Audio Precison analyzer. The SSM2019 is the best of the bunch, after...

SSM2017 layouts are so easy a breadboard does well. I use one for my PIP test jig here. It's only a few parts and an IC socket. It's all point-to-point wiring without any copper traces. Some "purists" swear by that over using a copper pcb.

I have, for many years. The guitars are active and have no cable driving losses so I like to get around. I've been know to stroll out the house mixer to give "suggestions" or check the mix.

Radio rigs don't sound right to me either.

It's a triple heavy lift as you are responsible for sales, advertizing and everything else a distributor does.

I have one and in my current studio over the last 4.5 years, 8/10 times I get RFI with Radio Disney coming out of the guitar amp speaker cab... I don't have RFI problems with ANYTHING ELSE! I need to get more (3-5 more would be nice) STDs or the Radial version pretty quickly, but I'm a little scare...

actually, unless i'm missing something, don't the LT parts and 317/337 have equal line/load regulation? from the datasheets they look the same...ripple rejection looks the same too? the lt parts offer greater current capacity, but that wouldn't be necessary here LT's specs are very conservative, I ...

PSRR varies with frequency. That's why I use a combination of very large low ESR electrolytic caps with fast polyprop bypasses.

Power rails are your fuel supply. It cannot ever be too clean.

That is a standard power supply design. Use Linear Tech LT1033 negative and LT1086 regulators for better ripple control and less output noise. I would also place 4700uf/25V caps on the regulator's outputs, that will reduce the regulator's noise to almost nothing. Use fast recovery 1N4934 rectifier d...

Press "key listen" and the audio path travels through the adjustable filters. The 612 is an excellent box for other uses too. It's about the best gate out there and doubles as an excellent expander. I used to use them to mix with, I would "de-compress" over squashed tracks with them before the brick...

The Aphex 612 gate/expander also has a pair. I bought one for $60.

The Hairball "Elements" series raw 500 mic preamp is a great choice, only about $125.

I put a High Speed mic pre card into one, works great.

The THAT 1510/1512 are probably the best bang for the buck, low parts count preamp chips around. Add a 1646 if you need a balanced output. If you layout for those mic preamp chips you can also use the Audio Upgrades PIP module. That is a hybrid/discrete mic preamp fitted on a 7/8" square pcb that p...

Gates will false fire from drum hits. Everytime they smack them good you let out a blast of drum noise.

If you have any made in USA Unidyne III capsules that work, use them as they are collectable and superior to the currently made in Juarez Mexico Shure capsules.
