Re: I don't have a problem with collabing with other people.

I found out this weekend that pre-amps make a huge difference in recording. Now I have been told this; I have listened, but I had never heard the difference. So why we say" you can't get the industry sound in a home studio" i just heard what I was looking for in a guys studio who's setup is almost ...

I do that for some of my own material where there is only one rhythm guitar track.

Yes, that will work. That or you could use an aux send off your mixer to your interface if you don't mind a liitle color from your mixer being added to the signal.

The output of the mic pre will not put out phantom power. The input will however.

I just happen to be listening to Deerhoof's Apple O'. I read about them in Tape Op a few years ago. I believe they recorded it themselves and to tape. Love that record.

Hmm. Sounds similar to McCartney's tones on Wings. Sounds like a miked cab, played with a pick, lows and highs rolled off. Not a huge fan of that tone either, but it's part of the aesthetic of that time period. If there was some huge ballsy bass tone on those records it would sound unnatural.

Another method I saw once was when an engineer came in with a brand new pair of ProAcs, and as we set up he placed them with cones facing each other, wired out of phase, and played music through them for a couple of hours. I have no idea if this helped, we didn't do a before/after kind of thing. Bu...

If you're talking about studio monitors then I can definitely understand a more rigorous break-in process. I'm talking about guitar speakers. I do believe for them to be truly broken in it would take more than 20 minutes. Here's what Celestion says: "Important Note! Before breaking it in it's advisa...

Yeah I can totally see the logic in breaking in a speaker too. Not that I doubt you, but I don't see why pink noise would break in a speaker better than a sine wave. I was thinking by blasting the resonant frequency of the speaker through it that would create maximum displacement and break it in fas...

That's one thing I forgot to mention. Do you think playing music, pink noise, or a straight sine wave is better?

Breaking in speakers.

Just curious as to what everyone thinks on this board. I did some extensive searching on what people said on other boards and articles and the suggestions varied widely. Some people say it doesn't make a difference, some do. Some say break in is not complete until after a weak, the Celestion site sa...

I've got the A7's. I like them a lot. I demo'd about a dozen monitors around that price range and they beat 'em all. Mid range and high end is very clear.

Yes. I'd like to hear this as well. I've tried it with guitar before and was never really that happy with it, but never with something like a choir with ambience.
