I just hope that all that stuff isn't in the room all the time....you have a lot of instruments. As for what's missing....you can definitely get by with compression plugs, but you should have one or two for tracking when you need it. I'd pick up an RNC so you'll have two channels of nice compression...

OK...so just say that having 3-4 SM57s is a given. I'd make sure I had 2-3 (at least) 421's as well. They work on so many things...not just drums. Also, the RE20 is a great one to add as well. Everything you read about the SM7, applies to the RE20, but the RE20 is much better at drum micing and horn...

Also, API is still available, where the older Neve stuff is really not being produced, or has been produced in years. The only thing you have is used and knockoffs. API is obviously available used and new as well....and as is mentioned above, fairly inexpensive. A new 512 is around $600 or so, right...

I think you guys have already said this, basically, but a list that every studio should have to me means, standards that every student should know and expect to find in most studios. If the mics aren't found, then you should be able to ask, how does this compare to "one on the list that's close" and...

It's funny. I've gone over to so many guys houses to help them with their recordings or help them set up a studio. It never fails, they'll start complaining about only having a 57 or so to record their guitar and it never sounds like what they want. Well, if truth be told, their tone is shite to beg...
