by the way... there is no transformer coupling in a Cloudlifter. I checked last night.
As you were.

Re: DIY Mic Booster (Cloudlifter style)?
Yeah, I had been thinking about that as well. I have no interest in making them outside of just to have a couple extra for my own use. The circuit that I built based on that schematic I posted was super-simple and worked well.
Thank you

DIY Mic Booster (Cloudlifter style)?
Hello all. I have been using a CL-2 Cloudlifter for a few years now to get the most out of my SM7B and ribbon mics. I really do like what it does and I thought it would be cool to build up a couple more similar circuits for the studio just to have extra channels at the ready if I needed them. I have...

Re: Welcome recording issues/mistakes
When we were recording The Curtain Society's album in 1996, we were tracking a song called "Chevelle" and a cymbal stand fell over in the middle of the breakdown. It's not particularly on time or anything, but it was sort of a magical moment and the take was otherwise perfect so we left it in. Nowad...

Re: Welcome recording issues/mistakes
Ronnie Van Zant was fond of Enteman's powdered donuts. During the recording of Sweet Home Alabama (aka Werewolves of London..ahem) , someone accidently brushed against the table where they were sitting precariously and they fell to the floor, to which Ronnie exclaimed, mid-take and in time, "My f**...

Re: printing individual tracks in multiple passes through a tape machine
I have done this with varying success. If the tracks have no bleed and are single-mic-source, meaning not multiple mics on a drum kit, for example, you can do it and manually line things up if you have to. My problem has been if I had to transfer multiple mics in more than one pass. The microscopic ...

Trident 65 light bulbs?
I would like to replace a burnt "SOLO" light on the meter bridge of a Trident 65 with an LED. Has anyone done this? I read that the bulb that's there is 24v, so I am assuming I can put a white LED in with the right current-limiting resistor. Does this sound right? Any thoughts on the value of the re...

Re: recreating demoes and "demo-itis"
One of the best functions to come out of digital recording is how I can (and do) save every revision in its own file so when we have produced our song to death I can always go back to the original spark. Exactly. If this is part of your process, it's probably helpful (crucial?) to make notes somewh...

Re: recreating demoes and "demo-itis"
I will check that Beato link in a bit, but I wanted to chime in here as I've had a lot of experience with both Demo-itis and Rough-mix-itis . Last week, I ran into a situation where the client had a bad case of Rough-mix-itis. It wasn't so much about there being some sort of magic captured in the ro...

Re: Plugins that deliberately add noise
I would love to pick the brain of a plugin designer about this and find out their reasoning. Like I said, I get adding distortion and "analog" anomalies, but just to add hiss when no sound is even playing? I don't get it at all. Who among us misses the way their old Alesis 3630 adds noise to the sig...

Plugins that deliberately add noise
I feel like Jerry Seinfeld with this one. What's the deal with dynamics plugins that deliberately add noise? What's up with that? Can anyone explain to me how this would be at all useful? Besides certain plugins that give you a control to add noise/hiss or not (waves DBX-160, for example), there are...

Re: What was that piece of gear....?
Are people still into that thing? I never tried it, and predicted it was flavor of the year, but that's unsubstantiated. That's exactly what I was thinking when it popped back into my mind. To steer this thread into an actually interesting discussion, it's gotten me thinking about in-between gear t...
