Yes, there is an adjustment for that. The Cobra is very adjustable, it even comes with a tool for making all the adjustments. But, if it was me (and I have had that problem before) I'd just roll up my pants. If you make the beater not come back so far you'll lose power in the hit. When I first got m...

If I could do it all over again, and not be stuck with all the cheap shit I have now, I'd get a Heil P(?)40 for Kick and the absolute best pair of condensers I could afford for Overheads. Probably the JolyMod MC-012's, if I could afford them for what was left of the $800. That might not be perfect f...

Those roland JC series and cube series amps are clean and can be used for good effect. My current guitarist uses a roland thingy and it sounds pretty good. People use them as a clean slate for their effects pedals. Adrian Belew used/uses a JC-120 I believe. I'm pretty sure my guitarist has one of th...

I read somewhere that Iggy Pop was a drummer before he was in the Stooges and that he used a steel trash can as a kick drum. I could see how you could mount a kick pedal on that little metal lip that goes around the bottom. I think he said he used a wooden beater too. For years I would always have a...

Looking for "Taxi Jive" record from 50's South Afr

Hey, Does anyone have a digital copy of this? http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a210/sheilagordon/bay5/5b-taxi.jpg I grew up with this record, covered tunes off of it, and I'm dying to hear it again. I wish I could find MP3's or something. There are copies on eBay for $50, but I can't justify the ex...

What about getting a dedicated computer power supply since that's already workin' for you. They make fanless ones. It's kindof a commodity item, so might be your cheapest bet. I dunno.

I should mention that I'm almost always just recording myself. A compromised performance, in a compromised space using compromised equipment. Ironically, I find that tracking through a compressor lets my worry less about the recording aspect of my performance, because I don't have to worry quite so ...

Won't Mercenary let you return it if you don't like it? Maybe someone here should be the first to give it a whirl.

I'm of the opinion that my shitty outboard compressors (dbx 166 and 266xl and symettrix 525) are better sounding than my plugins. So, I usually use all 6 channels on something when tracking. I put the overheads through the 166, the rooms through the 266 and the bass and kick through the 525. I just ...

I think it's a good deal for snake cable. I happen to like belden wire. It always seems really sturdy to me. If I'm not mistaken, the RedCo snake wire is 26awg. I almost bought some of that stuff you linked to, but I want a 12 channel snake with a stage box, so I think I'm going to get an EWI from a...

Man, It seems to me that if you're recording them for free they could help you out a little in return. Maybe they have a couple mics and an interface that they could scrounge from friends to bring to the session. Or, better yet, they could get you a used tiny little mixer and another mic as "payment...
