More good eatin': http://monellsdining.ypguides.net/ I know Michael Wagener digs it. Speaking of, you might be able to drop in on a workshop at his studio in Mt. Juliet, check them out here: http://michaelwagener.com/index.html

I'd guess that beastie is a 2SK30A N-channel JFET, you can google a datasheet for the pinout and specs. Since your board appears to use them as switches, it wouldn't be unusual to see the gate voltage go below the source voltage (to ensure complete cutoff), which appears to be the case. I suspect th...

because I broke some $200 seventh circle thing Our T15 is only $79 for the module. It's based on the THAT 1512 mentioned above and includes everything you need except the power supply and chassis. If you order it with our chassis, supply, and wiring harness the package price is $399, and all you're...

All it takes is for pins 2 and 3 of the XLR to not make contact at EXACTLY the same time and the damage is done Ohm's Law: I=E/R If E is 0, I is 0. It doesn't matter who touches what first. When phantom is off, the voltage between pins 2 and 3 is 0-0=0V. When phantom is on, the voltage between pins...

If the microphone is "the load" then the microphone is dissipating the current Not if the dynamic or ribbon mic is wired correctly. If the voltage between pins 2 and 3 is 0V, which is what it should be regardless of whether phantom is on or off, no current will flow. and the transient induced acros...

AC-Eventually it is 0V, but switching the phantom either on OR off results in a quick spike of up to 28V! (Is this normal?) Yes. The "spike" is the transition from 0V to +48V (or vice versa) which takes about 30 milliseconds. Since the meter is set to measure AC volts, it shows the fast transition ...

Multimeter. XLR cable. Pin 2 + Pin 3
Yes, but where is the black probe? Pin 1, the chassis, or somewhere else? If you're measuring 40V across pins 2 and 3 you've got big problems.

I wonder if there are filter caps in the phantom supply that were not drained If you turn phantom off at the module, the supply side of the phantom power resistors is held at ground and the local filter caps discharge in a few seconds. If you leave phantom turned on at the module and switch the sup...

Even with phantom off, my sytek measures something like 2v dc across all 4 channels. How exactly are you making this measurement? It could be the Sytek doesn't pull the phantom voltage all the way to 0V, which isn't necessarily a problem, or there's a 2V difference between pin 1 and your measuremen...

it could be a short or an intermittent connection in one of your mic cables Or it could be an intermittent solder joint at one of the 6K65 resistors in the phantom circuit or a miswired input transformer. You should measure 0V between pins 2 and 3 no matter what, even (especially) when phantom is t...

It takes like fifteen minutes tops for most projects. That's what I'm talking about. Another clever idea I've heard from our customers is to tape a copy of the BOM to a a piece of foam core (the stuff you use to dry mount posters) and stick the resistors into it as if it were a big pin cushion. Tha...

Use decent cable, by all means, but in the case of word clock and similar signals the greatest cable isn't going to matter if the connection isn't also terminated in the correct impedance. Be sure to find out if you need to set jumpers or add terminating resistors to get all your synced boxes to pla...

i am nowhere near skilled enough to build a hamptone kit Not trying to push you too far outside your comfort zone, but are you quite sure about that? Hence I would NEVER suggest a Seventh Circle kit to a "newbie". I certainly wouldn't recommend a C84 to an absolute beginner, either. In fact, the main page of our site recommends the C84 to "experienced DIYers" only. But I have to say that I'm surprised to hear it was so difficult for an experienc...
