Re: In need of quality mics

There is an MBHO thread going on in this forum.

Oh, I misremembered the price. They aren't much cheaper than the Schoeps.

Re: MBHO Mics

Ive been using a pair of Schoeps for a couple of years now. I don't do tons of work, but I have a pretty good feel for what they are about. Use them mostly for stereo pair stuff, acoustic guitar and sometime piano work. I had a chance to use a pair of MBHO with the small cardiod caps a few months ag...

Re: In need of quality mics

From your list, I would suggest the Blue mic. I've never used the Baby Bottle but have used the Dragonfly and the Mouse. I'll bet the Baby Bottle is a good mic. I've never had much luck with the C1000S for overheads, though I find it to be usefull in other situations. I'd bet the C430 would do a bet...

Re: Please Help me Destroy my Brain!!

Oh yea, I remeber now. All you need to do is to modulate a carrier signal like you would if you had an FM radio station. Two signals per channel. This would be a problem if you were using a CD because it would cut your frequency response in half. I'm pretty sure you can't do it easily with phase rel...

Re: Please Help me Destroy my Brain!!

Yes there is a way to do it (there were quadraphonic records after all), but I cannot for the life of me remember how it was done. I don't think the manufacturers had much luck with separation though. If Sony couldn't figure it out, I doubt you will have much luck. Arrg. Why oh why did you ask this ...

Re: Z Vex Woolley Mammoth on TUBA!

Damn, I can just hear it! I never really liked it on my bass (I'm a diode clipper myself), but I really can hear how it would sound on Tuba. HarRUNCH!

I've never had a happy accident mis-patching, ever.

Re: 2 pt. question: opinions on dbx 586 & colored mic pr

I've used a pair of 576 for a few years now and really like them. There is a little color in the preamps, but not a ton. The bottom is really full (I always use them for bass D.I. and kick). The highs are a little constrained, um, not tight but, er, wound tight, spastic but in a good way. Something ...

Re: good noise reduction box

Dolby SR is the way to go. I own a Dolby 363 and have dbx type 2 on an 8 track, and the SR sounds much better; which is to say it sounds less. The 363 doesn't sound as good as the SR on the big tape machines, but I suppose there are shops where you can get a couple of the units from a junked 2" rack...

Re: BEST TUBE COMPRESSOR UNDER $500???

I tend to agree with Joel Hamilton regarding preamps. If you are looking to trick out something like your Roland, this is the first step. Here an RNP would be a good purchase. If you MUST go with a tube compressor for not a bunch of $, I strongly suggest a dbx 566. They are no longer in production b...

Re: Guitar straps for injured backs

Actually, an old band-mate of mine had the same problem and had a great solution. You don't have to shell out the extra cash for a special strap, just extend whatever strap you have to it's full length and wrap it around your waist just above your hips. I tried it myself for a while, but gave it up ...

Re: rackable 8-buss mixer?

This could easily be out of your price range, but Spek makes a rackmount 8buss mixer called Xtramix or something like that. Looks nifty, and for $3,500 street it damn well better be nifty.

Re: understanding frequencies

OK. A bunch of people chimed in while I was writing this. I hope this will help. oh yea, and also why is it my understanding of frequencies is the lower the number, the more the frequency is in the bass range... however, bass guitars and kick drums are not strongest in the 30-60 hz range, but MUCH f...
