What I found interesting in the article is how making any kind of money off of Spotify is going to be dependent on the listener base growing substantially. That combined with people actually listening to your songs, specifically. Tall order for any band just staring out. I kind of feel that from her...

Thanks for posting this. I'm really enjoying TMIAS, by the way. Great work. Fossiltooth, the rest of this post is directed at everyone here and not you specifically. I've posted these questions on TOMB before, but it bears repeating here: How much money does one expect to make selling music? What is...

You night want to try EAR Studio http://www.earstudioaustin.com/East_Austin_Recording/Home.html This place has a nice large room and sounds fantastic. James gets great sounds over there and knows what he's doing. Also, Cacophony Recorders is a great studio with Erik Wofford at the helm. http://cacop...

Who owns a chord change? Geez. I guess that is a way of looking at a song. I don't share that though. I'm just illustrating a point. I don't actually wonder who owns a chord change. Maybe the subtlety of my post didn't come across. I personally have a hard time with concept of intellectual property...

Artists owning their own material has always been a sticky proposition. Who owns a 1-6-2-5 chord change in 6/8 time? Who was the first? Who owns the idea of a love song? Has anyone invented any new words lately? We're all using the same basic tools to write songs, which are words and language. "Yeah...

I cut an acoustic guitar track for a conjunto/reggae band tonight. My 68' J-45 mic'd with an AKG 451 through a Groove Tubes Vipre. Maybe the best that guitar has sounded in a recording studio. Normally it's a two mic situation with a LDC at the body and a SDC at the 12th fret. With this set up I sim...

I love a lot of Lanois' work. I happen to like room sounds and the capturing of great performances. I am, however, usually turned off by any kind of schtick. I'm a little suspect of the soul guru eccentric thing. It implies a certain lack of realness and honesty. Now, someone like Lanois probably li...

Great story Chris. A few weeks ago, in Austin, Cornell Dupree played a somewhat surprise set at the Continental Club in their upstairs lounge. I say somewhat because the place was packed to the fire code. Word had spread quickly. Cornell Dupree is one of my favorite guitars players of all time and I...

I've owned a pair of ATH-M40 headphones for about 6 years and they are really comfortable and still sound great. My only complaint was that after a while the thin coating of material on the earpieces would flake off and stick to my ears. The ATM-M50's don't have that material, as far as I know. I'm ...
