I don't think flipping the tape every 30 minutes is necessary. Maybe once in the process would do.

oh and when I do convert I use CBR 320, and make sure the file has peaks under 0.03 dBvu . from my research VBR might be better, but it's really inconclusive. in addition I was reading that when compressing, if a song goes over 0.03 there can be added digital distortion that results in artifacts an...

If you're going to be in it for the long haul, I would recommend setting up a meeting at the studio with a trusted studio designer and builder. You can hire them to consult with for a few hours. I did this and it really worked well in understanding the scope of the undertaking in the planning stages...

When I built my studio I used a similar product called tuff mass.
It was twice as thick and cost a buck a square foot.
