Re: Let It Be Naked(not an album review)
Ah yes, the Beatles. Another 40/60 band. 40% is great, 60% sub par. Can we stop talking about this band. Just another tool used in the Great Machine of the Recording Industry. I see. I see the flip utterences of an IDIOT. Pardon me, but I didn't need no "Great Machine of the Recording Industry" to ...

Re: beyer m260 ribbon mic orban spring reverb
What condition is it in, how old is it, and has it been used in a non-smoking studio? Did you purchase this from authorized US distirbutor?
Musicians Gear has it forabout $200 + 40 shipping, but no US warranty.
I'd be interested.

Re: FS: SYTEK MPX-4A
Since i posted the first suggestion that the asking price was too high, let may say that I had two purposes in mind: (1) warn individuals who had NOT done their research that the price was high. I don't see anything wrong with helping out a fellow user. You don't want to do it, OK, you don't have to...

Re: FS: SYTEK MPX-4A
May i suggest that perhaps the price is too high, given that you can buy them new directly from Mike Stoica at Sytek for $750?
I don't need one, having already bought one from Mike for that price.

Re: Roland VS-880EX for sale
May I be so bold as to suggest that perhaps the value is so low that it is not worth selling? instead, use it as a backup recording unit, or perhaps for recording/remixing things where fidelity is not the highest concern, such as video/film soundtracks, background music, etc.

Re: I just want a big volume knob!
there is no comparison between the DACT, which is a switched attenuator using ELMA rotary switch and surface-mount meal film resistors, and that other " ATTY Level Controller" which looks to be a simple pot in a box - no details on the web site. If the DACT is too expensive, consider buying a TKD (n...

Re:NOS components
Or what if you use NOS parts that were made 20-30 years ago? I wanted to post a straight answer to this amusing question, because it does raise some issues. Some NOS parrts, if stored properly (i.e., low humidity, no extremes of temperature, perhaps even in an oxygen-free atmosphere throu...

You Kids Go Away
I hated Let it Be when it came out, and the Spector production. I don't care if ya grew up with that album (you youngters born in 1970 and after), you don't know what it was like to listen to the crap which was that album in the context of the times, much less after the other Beatles albums that cam...

Atlas Stands can be Modified
Atlas makes heavy stands, but I have never liked Atlas stands after they have aged about 3 months, the metal on metal starts grinding, they get wobbly, all of those crappy chrome pipe with black solid base mic stands you hate on every stage you've ever been on are Atlas -Jeremy Dear Professor: I mo...

Saving Money, or Building it Better?
I would like to offer another perspective - yoy could go for saving money, with the same build quality as the original (except for the enclosure, which is usually not affordable to have reproduced/built for you). On this aspect Joel Hamilton is absolutely correct. However, you could also decide to b...

Heavy stands
I think you need to understand that big, heavy stands are expensive becasue they are big, and because not as many people buy them (unfortunately) so there is less ability to amortize the cost, and less competition. I own 4 Quicklok A50 and 2 Atlas SB-36 (which Markertek, www.markertek.com, sells for...

Re: How Cold is too Cold?
If condensation isn't a problem, then the colder the better. Generally speaking. Electronics are impervious to cold. Anything above freezing probably won't do any harm, and some electronics can stand lower than that. I really hope your basement doesn't get THAT cold.  You do not want fr...

Some household power cable is shielded!
Leigh: Some AC power cable has a steel jacket on it in order to armor it against nails and screws in the construction process. I think it is called BX. This steel armor provides shielding (although it is probably not as effective as copper braid for RF). I would think that any studio, or home studio...

Another view on AC Power cords
Here is what Jon Risch has to say about esoteric power cords: www.geocities.com/jonrisch/ac-cords.htm. In general, he does not believe that there are great differences to be had in esoteric power cords, but at the same time, he also indicates that it is more than just a matter of DC resistance. Also...
