Purple TAV vs API 560 on bass drum?
I've always liked the API 560 on bass drum, a little 36Hz, cut out some 500Hz, add a little 4K and boom modern bass drum sound. But, I'm wondering how the TAV compares. I wouldn't mind something a little "softer" or "rounder" sounding, but still really tight in the low end.

Ordered another CAPI VP28 kit and a used Focusrite 2802. Really excited to add analog summing and a control surface for mixing at home. I'm surprised it's not more popular...I think when it was sold by Audient is was maybe too expensive and now that it says Focusrite people shy away from it? I don't...

I just ordered a CAPI VP28 kit with GAR2520's. I really like the idea of an API preamp with an output fader. That's on my list as well. I'm really impressed with it. I prefer it to my API 3124+ (which I've sense sold) and the racked up sextet of vintage API 312's we have at the studio. The output t...

FS: OSA 500 Preamp API 2520 Huntington/Jensen Transformer
Not sure what exactly what the preamp model this is, but this is an early OSA (Old School Audio) preamp back when they were making API 312 preamps. This one uses a Huntington-era API 2520 and a Jensen JE-115-E input transformer. Good cosmetic condition, the face plate screen printing isn't the best ...

FS: API 3124+
For sale I have an excellent API 3124+ studio use only, I use it daily but the boss just brought in 6 API's so I'm selling these off to try something different. $2000 shipped in the continental U.S. Trades I'd be interested in a pair of Daking 52270 (the old models) or a Neumann U87 (vintage, not AI)

I occasionally like to, in plug in land, set up a Waves Aural Exciter on a stereo buss and feed instruments to it just to see what it does. It's easy to get carried away, but when used subtly it really can add a nice sheen to things. Try it on acoustic instruments. I found they work pretty well on t...

Personally, I wouldn't recommend a stereo ribbon for what you are wanting to do. I have an AEA R88, which sounds great, but it needs a lot of gain even being a foot away from softly played acoustic guitar. I tried to use it as a room mic in a studio last week for a mandolin/guitar session with vocal...

I don't think the DBX units make a lot of sense because you can buy a 160X/XT/A for around $100 on Craigslist. However, I think getting a good compressor that works for tracking vocals and bass makes a lot of sense. At least those are two things I always like compressing going to tape. Something LA-...

WTB: TDM or Native Plug Ins for Pro Tools 8
I've been working at a studio that's running an older Pro Tools 8 HD system and an upgrade isn't happening any time soon. So, I'm looking for some good deals on older plug-ins that maybe can't be upgraded, or cost as much to upgrade as replace. McDSP Filterbank, Analog Channel TL Space Massey VT3 Wa...
