I like it. I don't want all mixes to be drums, bass and lead vocal in the middle. I get bored with that scenario. It sounds right sometimes, but I do find it exciting and in a non-gimmicky way when things are done differently. I love the snare sound on Damn the Torpedoes, but I don't want all the sn...

A fellow I've been recording for a few years just released some new material. Here it is. I recorded all of it under heaps of different conditions and using different gear. Mixed a track, the rest was mixed by two other folks and mastered by someone else. Always looking for feedback and constructive...

hogfish - thanks for your suggestions - I guess though my questions is more of - how do I know if my solder joint to ground is solid? Is there a way to know if my ground connection is done properly. Also - I read a bit on grounding schemes this week and I'm wondering if I shouldn't be grounding the ...

Yes - replaced with the same value and taper all except for the gain pots which I dropped the value from 4M to 1M which is a common and seemingly well-advised mod for these amplifiers.

Guitar Amp pots not properly grounded?

Hey all - I've just (almost) finished rebuilding a 1968 Traynor YBA-1, but I'm having a little trouble. Many of the tone potentiometers don't seem to be changing the tone as much as they should be - they do, but very little. I'm thinking that this is a grounding problem, but I'm not sure how to chec...

Firstly - I'm no electrician or trained tech. I understand that what I'm doing has a high risk potential if not done properly and I take responsibility for my own actions. This is just what I do to discharge filter caps - Not saying that others should try this or do as I do. This is just what I've l...

Re-capping a 1968 YBA-1

Hey everyone - I'm recapping a Traynor YBA-1 that I just purchased this week. I'm having trouble finding an axial 10uF - 400V cap - Can source 10uF - 500V though - wondering if the different voltage rating is going to cause any trouble/change in sound at all? This cap goes to Pin 1 on Valve 2 (12AX7...

i've had some much conflicting advice on this, but my plan tonight is to just try all of the different things until one of them works and then report back here.

Thanks for your help!

Help - Built a sub kick and it's real noisy

So - my good pal Jamie gave me a working woofer from his HR824's - He'd replaced a pair and still have a good one. So, I figured I'd give a whirl trying to build a D.I.Y. sub kick. I read a few things on some message boards and it seems pretty straight forward. I used this method (although there are...

Topic: Can we retire "check your mix in mono?"

mostly I think checking your mix in mono is about looking for phase issues. I probably won't stop checking in mono, it's as much a part of mixing for me now as the occasional twist of the control room volume. I could be wrong but I think some radio broadcasts collapse to mono when the signal strengt...
