Re: what do you call yourself?
i use a bunch of words to describe what i do. "engineer" i dint usually feel weird about it as i went to school for it. did i learn any "real" engineering? no, but who's counting... producer, i actually do this usually studio person one that i hate, but sometimes am sorta forced to use: "musician" y...

Re: How do you record an acoustic?
if you are recording yourself this is a lot trickier- have whatever mic you are using feeding headphones that you are wearing. move the mic around the guitarist until you hear the sound you want. record a little against the song it is going on to make sure it's kosher. the headphones have to be loud...

Re: your favorite reverb?
im really happy with the electro harmonix holier grail pedal. it's not my only reverb and it doesnt get a million different sounds, but man the ones it does get are just killer. $180.

Re: Compessor Plug-ins, any preferences?
the ChannelStrip compressor is good (with its ratio up at 1000:1 it sort of behaves like an 1176) but it doesnt really work properly sometimes. the release time doesnt do what it is supposed to so your sound gets all dumb on ya. its EQ is outstanding, tho. i've owned that plugin for several years an...

Re: speaker as a mic problems
i dont know what the problem is, that was the coolest bass drum sound ive ever heard maybe you should take all those cookies out of the bass drum before recording it? ive heard that filling the drums with cookies can be really bad when recording seriously tho maybe your preamp had too much gain, wha...

Re: soundelux e47 mini review and confusion
the max SPL prolly means what the diaphragm itself can take before distortion. it wasnt the diaphragm that was distorting it was the tube section. it sounded like a "tube" distortion (pretty smooth), not like when i stick a condenser mic too close to a loud guitar amp kinda distortion (crackle-y and...

Re: Do you have PERFECT PITCH?
when i hear something not tuned to a440 it doesnt sound weird to me (i have perfect pitch on good days, slightly less than perfect on bad days :) ). it just sounds like theyre playing a different game. having perfect pitch doesnt equal having a closed mind, fortunately. there are blue notes all over...

Re: soundelux e47 mini review and confusion
i think a pad would help but only if it were between the diaphragm and tube, cuz i think it was the tube (toob?) that was limiting like that. oh, yeah, it was limiting. i set the level going to disk and it never crossed it on the loud parts. for some sounds it would probably sound awesome, not for q...

Re: digital delay
the line 6 can do plenty of cool things but not sound very good doing any of it my opinion of course, please dont :ar15: me the guyatone delay is cool. it is a simple digital delay, i think it's got 2 seconds going on. sounds groovy when it self oscillates. not really like an echoplex but still sort...

Re: Do you have PERFECT PITCH?
i sorta have perfect pitch. it doesnt bother me at all if something is out of tune a little, as long as it is still good musically. like sargeant pepper for example, everything sounds weird pitch wise in that song but it's still good.
