What is this Sonic Youth-fed, aggressively anti-musical hooligan army you're arming in the nation's public schools? Shouldn't their eyes be glazed over with boredom? But seriously, looks like a lot of fun. Did they build the guitars themselves?

I found the tacks enjoyable in a rambling Wowee Zowee way. The guitar stuff is probably your best asset. I would say don't even worry about what your recordings sound like. Just work on tunes. Specifically choruses. Or if you're not looking to write songs in the traditional sense, then you need more...

This is excellent. Sounds are nice, and everything has room to breath. Arrangement-wise, you've got this tapestry of syncopated sounds that suggests Talking Heads without sounding like a rip off. Maybe cut down on the number of percussion instruments in the final moments. Don't be afraid to let the ...

Man, spending that kind of cash on a first set seems crazy. Trying to get good sounds out of a mediocre kit is part of the learning experience. Helps you develop tone control.

Looking for vocal reverb advice for this track

I'm pretty happy with everything in this mix except the lead vocal. Maybe it's some revulsion to hearing my own voice, but it sounds too upfront, naked. What say ye Gods of Tapeop?

It's doesn't even fucking play in STEREO correctly. It doesn't??? Not the 3 I am around and subjected to on the road. It sounds like it stereo summed to mono, but i'm still uncertain what it truly is. The example i'll use is what originally brought this issue to my attention. A now defunct band fro...

Guitar Hero might not turn you into a guitar player, but for a non-musician, it can really change the way you hear music. I have a friend who is a serious music freak, but when he started playing Guitar Hero, hearing familiar songs from the guitarist's point of view really opened his ears to things ...

Thanks for the responses. I think a lot of my problem is with the difference between what sounds nice by itself and what works with the music, which for my particular venture is always something different. On the whole, though, I feel like the sound coming out of my bass is always enormous when I mi...

Worth Replacing Active Bass Pickups?

I've got a 70's p-bass that I love the feel of. It's the best sounding bass I've ever owned (not saying much), but I've never been able to get recorded sounds that I really dig, always plagued by excessive boomy-ness and general lost-in-the-mud mix problems. I've done different strings, different re...

Thanks for the responses. Some clarifications on my part: These drums are for me to play. "Studio" is a misnomer, really, as studio is the upper floor of my loft. This is for my "band," which is really a frustratingly slow recording project I do with one other guy. But we follow the songs wherever t...

Ultimate Studio Drum Kit?

I've been playing a set of Pearl exports for eight years, and the other day something snapped in my head: I want nice drums. I want awesome drums. I want ultimate, mind blowing studio drums. I know practically nothing about buying drums (the set I play was a Christmas present to my wife back in the ...

I can still twiddle knobs to make generic zip zap noises. It looks cool and all, but will it actually enable or encourage a kind of music that can't be made with a laptop and some software?

I've had one for four years now. Never had a problem.... Does anyone happen to know what flavor of ram this machine takes? I was in there for the first time in months the other day, thinking I could install some extra memory from a newer computer I had laying around, but the 400sc takes something ol...
