Re: How long per song
You can do like Led Zeppelin or The Beatles, and record your entire first album inside a day, or be like Brian Wilson and spend six months on a single song. As has been already noted, a huge part of the final timeline comes from how much you know going into the situation: in The Beatles' and Led Zep...

Re: Tricks to use on backup vocals
What it sounds like he did is to use eight occasions of the "done dirt cheap" crowd vocal as follows... left 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ----------------- 5 6 7 8 1 2 3 4 right ...thanks to some of the fun you can have digitally. Since I'm a one-man recording project, if I'm aiming for 'mass', I'll do whatever ...

Re: "ready-made" feedback guitar?
The idea of using a small practice amp to generate feedback is a pretty good one - I've tried putting my Smokey mini amp against the headstock of some of my guitars, and it will generate feedback. The only thing I've noticed is that the feedback vanishes the second you pick the strings - it then nee...

Vegas is a really good piece of software (I just finished an album using it). Like Evan said, it's not as powerful as some of what's available, but it can get the job done pretty well.

Re: Sun Hypnotic
The Sun Hypnotic tracks are really well recorded. Sounds like a hybrid of the darker, more chaotic impulses of Pink Floyd, old King Crimson and Rush. Really tight playing. The Tukada track is a little rougher around the edges, though I get the impression it's supposed to be. Nice work, though. What ...

Great stuff, Mike - I really like it. The piano adds such a great element to the choruses.

Re: The new kid in town would like your thoughts...
Thanks for all the comments so far! Yeah, as much as anything, I'm looking for ideas for next time. Mike - correct, everything on here is just me. Drums were recorded using my sole mic (an SHS clone of an SM57), set at ceiling level about 6 feet back from the kit and aimed roughly between my snare a...

Re: To all the web page designers...
I don't think there's necessarily a "standard size" people view at anymore, though generally designing a site to roughly fit at 800x600 is a good idea. Forget 800x600 IMO, time for people to upgrade. While it would be nice for people to simply up their resolution, it seems ineffective to try to forc...

Re: Washburn D10 acoustic?
I'll second that the Taylor Big Babys are incredibly nice. They feel great and sound wonderful.
I playing a lefty Fender DG14S that's great. Its satin finish (like you'd encounter on a Taylor Big Baby) just gives it a much richer character than a lot of cheap guitars provide.

Hi, all. My name's Steve Moss. I've been reading Tape-Op for a little over a year, and just finished putting together my first disc of material - it's all home recorded (to PC using Sonic Foundry Vegas, a POD, and an SM57 copy). I'd love to hear what you guys think of some of the tracks . Any feedba...

Re: anyone notice the new change to allmusicguide?
I liked it before they way they had it before, when pages had absolute links instead of the javascript interlinkage they use now. Using the Opera browser, you used to be able to pop up all the individual pages for discs within an artist's discography and bounce between them, or do the same for relat...

Re: distorting the vocal
If I remember correctly, on 20th Century Schizoid Man (an an early King Crimson track), Greg Lake sang patched directly into the board and they heavily oversaturated the tape. Best bet would likely be to split the input to two tracks, and overload the tape input on only one. Then, as has been said b...
