+ 1 on both the Wonder Stuff and Ned's. I'd almost forgotten both of them! Did anyone mention the Fall yet? nope...but I was gonna. The "wonderful and frightening" record is the jam! Also plus megapoints to whomever singled out PWEI. also: Inspiral Carpets The Housemartins That Petrol Emotion New M...

If by ridiculous you mean awesome.
Just means you've been around the block.....I'd have T-shirts printed.

Clipping your converter and clipping your board are two different things. Much of this depends on how your converters are calibrated. For example, if your converters are calibrated to 0dbVU = -12dbfs, you have 12db of headroom over line level. If your boards clip lights go on at +15dbVU, you will c...

Thanks for the responses, folks.....and that was my earlier inclination..... Just curious why the board is not registering a clip. Could it be because the volume spike is too fast to register on the analog gear? Or that it's less sensitive? Or is there something that could be a problem AFTER the boa...

Please explain why my snare is clipping

I know, I know...because it's too loud. But seriously... I record my rock band in an attic studio. The mics go through an old Allen&Heath live board (SR-424). There are no DOs so I have Y leads from the inserts going to a pair of 2408 MKIIs-->324card-->DP5 (on a dual 1GB G4 MDD powermac) The inserts...

Would this not be a drastic argument to master directly from the multi-track Pro Tools platform at all times?
Or at least run it out through a nice summing bus to tape or a standalone burner.

some radio stations actually sum all music to mono and then use a prcocessor to create a fake stereo image before broadcast. wow...didn't know that, but it explains a couple things. A few weeks ago I was driving around and "Won't Get Fooled Again" came on the classic rock station in town. Something...

whatever happened to kirk hammett? he was so good on kill 'em all, and then he just got worse and worse. I'm inclined to agree with that. Although I really do like all his work through MOP. He's a fantastic player...but has always been a bit on the formulaic side. I think his style of flying out of...

usually what seems almost retardedly simple to me as a musician is what sounds the best to me as a mixer. amen to that! (it's also what usually sounds best to the non-engineering public) +1 Sometimes restraint and taste are the two most important things to showcase. I think it's a huge challenge to...

Any of those scenarios is feasible. I'll weigh in because one of my last projects was home tracked and then mixed at a pro studio. I'll say up front that most of my sounds were synths and samples - so I kinda had it easy on that end. But really, if you are happy with the sounds you get when you're r...

7 Seconds-New Wind... I was fourteen or fifteen and a skater in the eighties. These were some of my anthems. I remember one fateful day when I walked into a Camelot music store in the nearest podunk mall to our podunk town and bought "The Crew" and New Order "substance." This was '86 or '87 I loved...
