I've had a pair of MPX100's since they first came out. I use them for delays, the 'echo' function has a 6k limited bandwidth with reduced bandwidth each repeat, just like natural echo or tape delay. I often fold back the Bricasti M7 returns through those. Another cheapo sleeper is the older Lexicon ...

The best option now days is the Bricasti M7. It's wonderful, everything you hear about it is true. Older Lexicons should be avoided unless you are a world class repair tech and have sources for obsolete parts when they fail.

Second choice would be a PCM 92.

Don't expect much from that. These SP-1 mics have a rather harsh sounding capsule, improved electronics just makes it worse. I bought 16 of them back in 2001, all brass bodies. All were rebuilt inside. The designs were sold to Microphone-parts. I use their capsules in these and all are excellent and...

Easy fix. Wire a 2.2k resistor is series with the signal, follow that with a 1 k resistor to ground, that will attenuate the signal about -12 db, the difference between +4 dbu and -10 dbV.

Those parts can easily fit inside an XLR connector.

Google the Gibson L6-S wiring diagram. That shows how to wire the 6 position switch. I applied that to each humbucker to get those single coil sounds. This site doesn't allow posting schematics as attachments. Push-pull tone pots are made by Bourns. The preamp is made here, contact me at Audio Upgra...

Mine has threaded inserts for the bridge like the modern versions. It's much more solid than the American vintage single post screwed into the wood top. It also comes with grover tuners. It's a desert burst "Custom 'sweat' shop" limited edition. A Burstbucker 1 and '57 in the bridge gives it that ol...

Check out a used Soundcraft Delta 200 8x4x2. Some are made in a 19" rack case. It has the best in class stereo crosstalk and a pad-less mic preamp. Another big difference is it has a dedicated balanced line input, the others run through the mic preamp padded down.

I bought one for $450.

Try using a Bricasti M7 live, you will never go back. I'll bring a lexy if I don't want to risk taking the M7 with me. Patch it into my tube amp line level effects loops and it's like Pink Floyd live.

John Mayer uses a pair of M7's in his live rack. Must be great to have that ability.

Rhodes panners used a triangle wave pan effect. I also designed a version of that triangle wave panner into the Mk7 Rhodes. It used vactrol opto elements. Fender guitar amp vibrato is a sine wave effect, very different. Mk1 and 2 Rhodes set the panners so the left and right speakers would be affecte...

The thin black ADAT sound was caused by the use of a 1 uf input blocking cap. There is no depth. I changed that to 47 uf on mine and the low end was thunderous.

The live jazz tracks I recorded back then still sound excellent after transfers.

One of my friends has a Line 6 guitar amp. It's absolutly the worst sounding POS I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot. It makes a nice guitar sound like a kazoo. It's almost a joke amp, providing the thinest, screachingest soda straw sound ever. It might be a good amp to use to get a "telephone" vo...

I use Belden 9182 LAN network cable for mics. 150 ohm impedance, 70% propagation delay (70% the speed of light) teflon insulation and 22 AWG wire. It's 8 pf per foot stray capacitance, very low. Compared to star quad, it's like after your ears pop landing in a jet. I have little or no need to boost ...

I built a tube mic pre last month. It was a design I had from 1992. It used a Jensen JT-115 input transformer, a 12AX7A tube and a 12BH7 output driver. Gain is active, set with a dual antilog pot off each cathode. I used high end film caps and resistors. Gain is variable from 26 to 65 db with a DI i...

Tascam was bought by Gibson. They fired all the old people that worked there, Jim Finch, the long time service manager retired.

Then they threw out most all the old parts stock. If you want to buy anything Tascam, buy a couple extra for spares.

In Ye Olde Metal days we would place the amp next to the player but run the speaker in another room. 8 ohms is low impedance and travels to the next room well if you use good cables.
