Re: Apollo Masters Burned Down

RE: the vinyl comeback What is the ratio of people that actually listen to their new vinyl on a regular basis vs just use the download code? I've never used a single download code from a vinyl purchase. Since losing my entire collection roughly a decade ago, I'm back up to 300ish titles. I typicall...

Re: Apollo Masters Burned Down

My guess is Jack White or Chris Mara will at least try to figure out how to start producing lacquers. Mara just expanded his electroplating operation, so I would imagine he has incentive. I do wonder about DMM facilities and the small lathe cutting operations. As I understand it, these are generall...

Re: Apollo Masters Burned Down

This is potentially very bad. As I understand it, their Japanese "competition" is a one man operation, so not much hope of picking up much slack there. But on the flip side, with the vinyl resurgence there's been a lot of investment in all the downstream aspects - there are more cutting, electroplat...

A Tapeop interview would be awesome. Here's one they did last year

Re: 3 Pin Tuchel/Din Pin Numbers

I replaced a 3 pin DIN last year, unfortunately I tossed it. But I believe I used a meter to find ground and it was simple from there.

Re: EV 660

How does the 660 compare soundwise to the 664? (I know this a bit subjective, I've got 4x 664, 2x 665, 2x 666 and they all are a little different)

Re: Ribbon dilemma.

Distortion, as in electrical? Or mechanical? As others have said, holding the mic horizontally and rotating it, listen for a metallic "clank", this would be a sign of a slack ribbon. Tapping the body resulting in ringing would be resonance that can be tamed by putting a piece of foam in the lower pa...

Re: Problem balancing level of multiple monitors

Different speakers with different efficiencies being driven by different amps, I think it's to be expected that the same input level will deliver different output levels. If the BM6a has the least control, it probably should be the baseline around which the others are adjusted. If the -10 setting is...

Re: Problem balancing level of multiple monitors

Set the BM6a trim to "0" and then trim the D5 down to match? I'm sure there must be a reason why this wouldn't work/be a good idea....

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Welcome, MrBiggs The literature for the Fryette says, "a genuine, all-tube, one watt guitar amp, driving an internal reactive load and an analog speaker simulator.  The internal load is disabled when driving a speaker cabinet" Sounds like it has a power soak, which converts most of the power tube's ...

Re: connecting turntable to console

My Denon has a defeatable phono pre built in. Because they were available, I borrowed an Art and a Behringer for comparison. All three were fine. I'm currently using the phono input on a Hitachi receiver, which does have a better sound. It has selectable cartridge types, impedance, and possibly some...
