Yeah, that one was great. I had some big questions I had answered by Russ Berger. What a great conference this time around! And "Records" panel was a definite hightlight. Mark R. is the best. He mellows the whole thing down and then goes deep. He's the official Tape Op Con philosopher. I also learne...

Storing old Tape Op issues

I have all of the Tape Op back issues and wanted to store them in a better way than have been (in a crate). What I really want are those binders (that used to be real common) that held a years worth of issues using rails and a binder. I can't find these anywhere and all I see are those lame magazine...

you seem to be reacting as though i was directing my response directly at you, which it wasn't, at all. I didn't think you were, others seemed to share my point of view as well. Whether it's analog or digital, bad equipment sounds bad. Bad digital equipment sounds one way, bad analog sounds another...

I don't think this is an "analog vs digital" debate. Maybe it is... after all, you yourself say "The main difference is that shitty analog recordings seem to have more 'charm' to them, whereas bad digital recordings usually just sound sterile and hard." That's my point. Digital may have an inherent...

Re: digital deadness...

Perhaps you're doing something wrong that might be responsible for your experience but... if I had to pick a word to describe the sound of digital as compared to analog, I think "dead" is it. For me, the challenge of recording digitally (I've been at it for about 10 years) is to make the recording s...

I agree! I often think about how useless all my audio shit is without power. Electric guitars and amps too. Not to hijacke the thread with OT stuff - but I think the biggest thing all of take for granted is the electrical grid - without it none of our studios (unless you're cutting wax cylinders wit...

I find these are all bottom and top and the mids are kinda back. I don't use them for monitoring anymore but I have them on my stereo (and I like them a whole lot for that).

I guess everyone has a different opinion about these.

Yeah, while I like Randy Rhoads' tone for that stuff, I crack up every time I read "dirt bike guitars". Nasal Dirtbike Guitars ...ala Randy Rhodes & other 80's metal. Some great stuff I guess but that tone, like a fucking Kawaski 1000 run thru your nose. . I keep cracking up about your terminology, ...
