Re: The Value in Turd Polishing

It's funny, my band recorded a CD in my living room this past summer. We were all excited and got some copies made to hand out at shows and what not.....now all we do is say how much it sucks. It was fun, and it has some redeeming qualities, but I think we learned a lot about what NOT to do while r...

I poured the better part of a bottle of beer on my little behringer mixer that I use for practice and whatnot, it's still working as good as it ever did....

Re: am I getting old or does stuff suck?

is pop-indie music really getting more dissapointing? I am so sad to see everyones top albums of 2004. It seems like you should be saying "Are pop-indie FANS getting more dissappointing?" Obviously, if you can find a list of albums on your own that YOU found engaging a good then "pop-indie" m...

Re: Anyone ever record electronic drums? How's it sound?

I recorded a shitty pop punk band that for some reason used shitty electronic drums and they of course sounded like shit. One kid in the band had rich parents and they had all of this obnoxious gear that they had no idea how to use. I actually had to tune their guitars for them. And "What kind of gu...

Re: why do I suck at recording drums?

I placed the sm57 just of the rim pointing towards somewhere between the center and the rim of the drum, maybe an inch of the head. I still don't have a "system" of micing drums, as I've been trying as many different approaches as possible to see what they all sound like. Lately I've been sticking t...

Re: Pink Floyd studio stuff

I'll add to the "go buy the DSOTM classic album DVD" list here. I think I've watched it 20 times. I never tire of it. I wish they would put out a DVD of nothing but Parsons at the console going through the whole album like he does with a few of the songs on the DVD. That and the scenes where Gilmour...

I'm really liking this stuff, online ordering would be cool, as my laziness seems to make snail mailing next to impossible. If I lived close I'd definitely be up to seeing a show, but alas, I'm nowhere near....

Re: why do I suck at recording drums?

Thanks for the comments. I'm definitely in the less is more crowd when it comes to micing drums. The basement we recorded in didn't have much "room" to it, so that's probably a lot of the problem right there. We did dampen the hell out of the snare because there was a terrible ring going on, that wa...

Re: why do I suck at recording drums?

We tracked in a "finished" basement (carpeted, with foam on the walls here and there) the drums were in the basement with the guitar in the garage and the bass DI. I figured by only using 4 mics I'd keep the phase issues to a minimum on the drums, I'm pretty sure we adhered to the 3:1 rule. Thanks f...

why do I suck at recording drums?

Here's a recently recorded song. Everything sounds good to me except for the stupid fucking snare drum. Any comments would be appreciated... http://silentage.net/MP3s/Silent_Age-Airplane_Song.mp3 Here's another one. We sucked it up pretty bad in this recording, so I just put a shload of reverb on th...
