Tube mic pre - suggestions?
Hi everyone, The studio upgrading bug has bitten me once again - I mostly record one or two instruments at a time so my new plan is to streamline the gear a bit and get just a few really good units. One of the first items on the list is a tube mic pre - I've been using the pres on my low-end Soundcr...

Re: Phase question
My understanding (this is what I was taught) is that a dynamic mic converts the movements of the diaphragm directly into voltage, whereas a condensor mic senses the change in capacitance between the diaphragm and a backplate, creating an inverted signal. I dunno. Could be wrong. Anyone with more spe...

Re: Phase question
Also keep in mind that a condensor mic's signal will be 180 degrees out of phase with a dynamic, so if one of your mics is condensor and one dynamic, that would explain why you needed to invert one channel.

Re: Tapco 4400 reverb?
I've used one a bit, but mine's not really in great shape. One channel of it seems to work okay, though. I wouldn't call it subtle. The 4-band EQ on it can create some interesting effects. Eventually it ended up stored in my garage because it was just too flakey and seemed to distort really easily. ...

People used to think analog modular synthesizers were dead too, and now we have what, at least 5 or 6 different companies making new modulars?

Re: Tubulators are now $15...
Re: SAD-3 yeah I was dissapointed as well at such an insanely short delay time, but there was a post on here somewhere about going in and adjusting one of the internal controls and being able to fuck with it a bit more. Haven't done it yet to mine. Thanks for the tip - I just checked that post out,...

Re: Tubulators are now $15...
I got the SAD-3, and I have to say I'm really not impressed. I got it for $30... and, I guess it sounds about as good as $30 should, but I guess I just can't imagine it being that useful on anything. My main problem with it is that the delay time range is just so small... you get either a short dela...

That would be one of those "UTFSF" questions there. Oh, okay, fine, I'll do it for you. http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=23193 http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=26075 I personally use Mogami 2549 and Neutrik black/gold XLR connectors and I'm happy with the cables I've made...

Make your own... you'll have to eventually. It seems like a pain but with higher-end cable you'll be saving money.

Anyone used both the Microkorg and Micron and care to compare the two in terms of sounds, control?

Re: How's this for liner notes?
Just because the New Yorker still writes "1960's" is no reason to follow along - stodgy old bats. Out with unnecessary punctuation! By the way, for anyone who's actually entertained by this nonsense, I highly recommend the book "Eats, Shoots & Leaves," by Lynne Truss. Hilarious stuff for grammar gee...
