Congrads..... our blessings are with you..... You definitely need an MRL tape, oscillator, tweaker, demagger, etc.... my suggestion would be to go to Eddie Ciletti's site, and read all his analog stuff, then go to the MRL site, and read all that stuff....... then get a real tech to align and cal you...

My first instinct when I saw this thread was actually to say that the two are opposed...... warm and punchy can't really exist simultaneously..... but what the fuck do I know...... ?

Punchy and warm?

Los Lobos - Colossal Head
Beck - Sea Change
Neil Young - On the Beach
T. Rex - The Slider
Elbow - Cast of Thousands

I think Albini's drums are neither warm nor punchy, myself..... but my tastes lie elsewhere......

Knights, Sorry I got you all wowed up..... I never imply - I just simply say what I think. I wasn't implying anything, rather stating that "we" sometimes expect things to be cool right out of the box. That was MY initial reaction to the HOG, which went away after I learned how to use it to my taste....

I'm with Joel...... I still mix on a desk, and will till the day I go deaf. PT is a very smart tape machine, and quite honestly, is far superior (regarding automation) than any old VCA automation like Uptown, etc..... In fact, it probably kills all OTB console automation..... There is though, nothin...

FWIW, I have both the POG and HOG, and they're incredibly powerful if you take a moment and learn them, and experiment. I think we tend to get too used to instant gratification, and expect something to do something cool out of the box..... I've done things like reamp vocals through either pedal to e...

I do audience usually...... but I keep my toms fairly tight, because I use mono OH quite a bit...... i get width with the ambient mics, and I'll usually pan my fucko mics wherever they work best..... I used to hate audience perspective, but as you do it, you begin to appreciate the placement, me thi...

FS: Waves L2 Hardware Unit

Hello,

I am selling my Waves L2 rackmount Ultramaximizer. I'm asking $1100 plus shipping for a near mint, 100% unit with manual.

I'm in upstate NY.... this thing was used in a racked and protected environment, and NEVER abused. Email me offers.... or PM me. Thanks,

DGoody

If that's true about yelling at assistants, then fuck him. That shit is bullshit. I have no tolerance for that. I was taught in a very old school way, and definitely got yelled at from time to time, but I resolved myself to treating everyone with respect, no matter what. Making records is not like s...

One particular oversight is that most people think they did the drums in small tight rooms..... rather, the drums were usually in larger spaces, but with a fair amount of deadening immediately around the kit, and above...... they made lots of canopies in those days..... it remedied the unusual tonal...
