Vancouver?
Here for work, but have some free time. Gorgeous fucking place. Any reccos for good bars? Restaurants? Maybe places to see live music? Maybe cool instrument stores, preferably used? Other stuff to do?

That's one hell of an assumption. Please elaborate on what you mean by that last statement. Well, it wasn't an assumption, it was speculation. I think by-and-large, ours is not a music making or music participating culture, it's a music consumption culture. I would speculate that if you came from a...

This is just a small nit on my part, but damn is that Shilo Productions group annoying. You're in advertising dudes. ADVERTISING. Your work is used to sell shoes, etc. Always remember that whence pontificating. I'm not slagging advertising. I generally don't care what people do to make a buck. It ju...

Metric Halo? I have the old 2882 and ULN-2. They both have mic-pres. They now have a LIO-8 which is pure conversion (there's a ULN-8 with mic-pres). I'm strictly hobbyist and these are the only convertors I've ever heard and, to me, they sound great. Based on their email list, the more professional ...

I think it's funny that the knee jerk reaction is to get pissed at the FBI, and not be pissed at Gibson. this isn't the first time they've been slapped down about this. No argument. This is in no way a pressing issue....trading in illegal wood.... But I would be surprised if Gibson wasn't aware of ...

Bumping and refining this thread. I'm recently coming off a longish recording hiatus. I upgraded to Logic 9 and lo and behold Mainstage can now do realtime looping with the cool "loopback" plug. So, I too, require a midi foot controller. While I generally stay away from Behringer stuff, their pedal ...

Just saw this thread... a day after upgrading to 9... I'm middling happy with Logic and suspect I'd be happier with DP or PT for most of what I do. However, I'm financially sunk into it and I do really love the instruments and effects--I fear moving to DP/PT would just cost sooo much to get re-set-u...

An idea is to check with your local universities' music departments about when/if they do annual sales of their practice instruments. I know that the University of Minnesota does this, as does Seton Hall (I'm assuming more do it as well). These are usually really good pianos (Yamahas, Steinways, an...

I like my 90's G-K 800RB with the horizontal power switch. 300w full range (I don't use the 100W for biamp hi). Lots of power, thick, punchy, with character. Not "clean" and lifeless. I believe the newer G-K bass amps are good but not the same kind of sound as the older 800's. Anything new with lot...

I think multi-effects are great as a sorta tasting menu for effects. I've owned the Line 6 M13 and M9 at separate times. Pretty good sound, true bypass, great looper. I keep thinking I should buy one again just for home entertainment. I sold them though, and the other multi-effects I had way back, ...
