I would think any cheap midi controller could probably do this. If I get a chance I'll see if I can do it with my Behringer BCR2000. I'm not really using the computer for recording anymore, but the Behringer is a pretty decent cheap control surface. Eight faders and eight rotary encoders. I think th...

I only have one Beyer mic and it's an oddball. It's an M61 that I bought years ago off eBay for 20.00 on a lark. I actually love it on vocals and really should try it on some other stuff. I wish I had more of their mics. I think the first really quality audio thing I ever bought was a pair of DT-100...

If I was trying to cop that vibe on the cheap I would try using a magnetic pickup on an acoustic. something like a Seymour Duncan Woody. I think those are under forty bucks. There's something about the tone that reminds me of the boxiness you get from using a pickup with an acoustic. I actually dig ...

You've inspired me to give it another shot ... 8) If you are interested you can hear the rough mix of the song here. https://soundcloud.com/trick-fall/control Also I think I remember you asking about direct guitar options. One of the guitars was recorded with a Tech 21 Leeds pedal and the other a J...

J And not to sound a know-it-all (I've just been buying a lot of stuff at this kinda low-to-mid-level for a few years, and using it), but I really dig the RE320 on bass and sometimes guitar amps; it's just OK for me on vox. Never tried the MPA. I actually got the RE320 for bass duties. The vocal pa...

I like the idea of a dynamic mic because you can get a really good dynamic in that price range. I also have an easier time getting a good sound out of a dynamic in my low ceiling untreated basement studio. I'm guessing it's because the reflections are less of an issue with a cardioid dynamic. Also F...

More mood in the lighting and more tripod shot. I was getting a bit seasick. Overall though I thought it was nicely done and way better than what I would've come up with and most importantly I really liked the song. Also I did find the mic distracting. I would probably either use a live type dynamic...
