for incredibly acurate mids that are almost "agressive" to tight bottom with smooth highs I love Scott Helmke's (scodiddly) "Alice" mic on acoustic guitar for miking at the 12th fret. Another fave for me is the 4033 and in stereo X/Y config, 2 4033's or a 4033 and a 3035. I've had my eye on the "Al...

'69 Gibson Lefty LP Custom Black Beauty
And before you say "get a used one," let me tell you, it's flippin' hard to find a used lefty LP. I just ran into a lefty Black Beauty at this site. http://www.rocknrollvintage.com/ No price listed, but I think it'd be worth a call if you're in the market. I'm still kicking myself for not picking u...

Gibson and PRS
I heard about that a few weeks ago. The same source said PRS wasn't going to make lefties anymore either. Thank Jebus for Fender and Gretsch (and Elliot Easton). When I picked up my Epiphone Sheraton II in London several years ago, I was surprised and delighted by the number of lefties in stock in t...

I've been thinking about picking up a Demeter RV-1 2-ch. spring reverb. I've seen them for @ $525 new, but you may be able to nab one used for about half that. I believe it has both XLR and 1/4" I/O, so you would have some options when connecting to your Tascam. FWIW - I think Ry Cooder used to endo...

If you're in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, there is a really cool bar called Alive One (all live/bootlegged music on the jukebox and rare stage photos plastered everywhere); it's 2 doors north of the Guitar Center on Halsted. Also in that vicinity is Chicago Music Exchange and Reckless Records. If ...
