Re: Oktava MKL-012 mic
Has anyone tried out the tube version of the much loved Oktava Mk(mc)-012? http://www.frontendaudio.com/Oktava_MKL_012_Tube_Microphone_p/9999-01428.htm I love my 012's and my recently acquired mk-102's, so this is an interest. but I don't think Banjo Mart will be blowing them out for $99 though... ...

Ok I found a TRS - XLR cable lying around with a gold pin on the 1/4 side, plus I changed the 12AX7 tube out and opened it up and looked around to see if anything was loose. Nothing seemed loose and the boards looked good no burn marks. I can now at least hear the mic I have plugged in and theres n...

WTB: chameleon labs 7622 (with PSU)
I'm in Portugal but don't mind getting stuff from the US, as long as we can go around Customs (declaring less for the purchase, etc.) cause music/audio related stuff is seen as luxury items here, so that means 1/3 to 2/3 of the total price in taxes alone. nice. anyway, if anyone's looking to sell on...

Re: Best Budget Pre for an SM7b?
kayagum wrote: Hey if it works (cascaded preamps), it works. good point, I guess my concern is that if I try to up the gain from my SM7b by first going into the Studiomaster pre, then into the EH12Ay, with that set-up all I'll really end up hearing is an amplified version of my Studiomaster pre's. ...

Finally (in a seeming non-sequitur) , I just gotta say, that I have recently had a few discussions with people who feel that Tom Waits records are poorly recorded. I would have to respectfully disagree. I strongly feel that every one of his recordings is top shelf. . i'm with you. what an incredibl...

+1 on the DMP3. i did some listening tests today with it (thanks to palinilap), and it was much nicer and warmer than the soundcraft spirit and EH12AY7 pres. with a ribbon mic it had enough gain, and no extra upper mid/highs, the same with an LDC. I would look into it not as a low end pre, because ...

Hmm...one of the problems with budget preamps is they sometimes don't have enough juice. The RNP 68 dB of gain, which is probably at least 12 dB over the EHX. But, they aren't cheap cheap ($500 for two channels). The M-Audio DMP3 has 66 dB of gain, and it's only $160 for two channels and they are a...

Re: Ummm...Nebraska
I realize Bruce Springsteen's not exactly the hippest guy at the average TapeOper's dream party 8), but Nebraska's pretty damn good. Better than any of the big money E Street stuff at capturing his raw emotional power in spite of the awful room sound, wonder if there's a connection.... one of my fa...
