Does it have a barcode? Was it pressed and not burned? If so, then congrats! Why does that matter? I've both recorded and bought recordings with no barcode. Congrats no matter if the only people who heard it were you and the artist. "Art doesn't need profit to qualify it or justify it."-Ian MacKaye...

I've known "this guy" for a while and he is by no means a leach. If anything he's helped other people and has a strong work ethic. He pays his band members and the people who come in to record (which is where most of the $ goes.) He has a day job and also teaches music to earn extra cash. I just fin...

Accepting the fact he'll be going couch-surfing to afford his recording smacks of having priorities out-of-whack.

Money for recording should be coming from playing shows for a band like that.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

What we do is important

I was talking with a client yesterday as I was setting up mics and cables. We were talking about our other jobs and plans. As we're talking he mentions that he's moving out of his apartment and is living on friends' sofas in order to save money to pay for the record we're doing. It reminded me of ho...

I've used the AT4033 quite a bit on upright and you can find those used for about $200. They sound good on a lot of other instruments as well.

While tracking a band to tape a few weeks ago, " Can you put a Fender Bassman plugin on my track?"
Also one guy looked over at me while we were listening to the playback, pointed to the tape machine and said, "What is that?"

Ok

I have a CAD Trion and i really like it. I think the two mics are made at the same factory and beyond the grills might be the same mic but I'm just guessing. Look on the Michael Joly site, I think there was some info on there about them. Actually here is the article I was thinking of: http://recordi...

Yeah, if I remember correctly you have to screw them into the body, then slide the housing out.

Re: Dead Oktava MK-012-01?

ive got an oktava MK-012-01 that just work right. phantom on, new cables. the funny thing is, with enough gain, if you tap on the body of the mic, you can get some sort of transduction. but clearly, the screw-in capsule and diaphragm arent picking up anything. any thoughts? do you think i just need...

TS24 shielding problem

I recently moved locations and now I'm getting some radio station interference. It's only on my outboard gear, especially my preamps when I'm using phantom powered mics with the phantom power on. We figured out that at the patchbay those inputs/outputs going to the gear have the shield unterminated....

Joshua Redman was doing this when I saw him during the Elastic tour. He had a mic mounted with one of those spiderweb looking clamps that went along mouth of the bell with what looked to be a sm57, not sure though.

Best thing was his drummer Brian Blade.

Well, in the past two months I've met three people between the ages of 22-27 that have graduated from recording programs and never touched a tape machine. Two went to Cal State Fullerton and one went to Layola. One of them came to my studio for a visit while I was tracking a band on 2" tape and when...
