Hey Soundguy thanks for the advice! Honestly I don't really know that much about mics (obviously), but dark doesn't scare me off. I'd much rather have dark than bright.
How do you like the RE-20? What other mics besides the 421 do you like? Also, what is your opinion of the 4033?

How about using a different speaker? I've recorded a kick with a speaker as a mic and I just took a cabinet with a15" in it, faced it towards the kick, plugged a cable into the output jack which then ran into the mic pre and out into the recorder. No one single problem. I don't anything but if ya go...
