Re: keyboard advice?

ACTUALLY.... I'd tend to agree, if you have no problems with humidity or excessive temperatures in your studio. A real piano would blow you away. If you have any kind of humidity problem, temperature problem, or even space problem, don't bother. You'll spend a lot of money trying to unsuccessfully k...

Re: keyboard advice?

If it's going in your studio, get a controller and a module. You'll end up buying more modules (and even software synths) over time and the keyboard won't turn into a relic. If you can get EMU modules, you'll be getting tons of killer sounds in easy-to-use low-priced modules. Stay away from their ke...

Re: need help deciding what to buy

I really, really agree with getting last year's iBook (whatever year you're buying it in). They usually go for around $850 with a full warranty, you can watch movies on them, and I just finished recording a choir with an iBook, a MOTU 828 interface, and 2 Samson small-diaphram condensor mics that so...

Re: What if the customer is NOT always right?

One was pro bono, the other (the K-Tel guy) is paying by the hour. No, my name is DEFINITELY not going on that one! Since I like them, though, and since they're paying anyway, I'm going to suggest they go get a second opinion from another graphic artist - one that does it for a living.

Re: What if the customer is NOT always right?

I guess I felt doubly better last night. ;)

Had these things been paintings instead of digital images, I would have had to kill him. Quickly, mind you, but violently.

What if the customer is NOT always right?

I figure neither of these guys visit this forum, so I feel free to rant. I do graphics as well as audio; two of my musician friends are really, really bad at graphics so they come to me to do their stuff, One pays, the other doesn't (can't afford to). They give me some raw photos and stuff and say, ...

Re: Mastering on DP 3

"It does make a difference in DP. If you want the mix to sound the same and end up with a stereo file, do this. Set you ouputs to say 3&4 setup a new stereo track with the inputs set to 3&4. Do not set the outputs on this track. record enable the track and then record. You should see a stereo file a...

Re: Mastering on DP 3

"i agree with steve in all respects but not about two bounces not degrading my sound..like i said i can hear it with just one in my situation..low murk builds up and parts that are originally standing out in the higher registers get burried a bit..sound overall is more "rough""pixelated""lessreal".....

Re: Mastering on DP 3

I agree about a different set of ears in a different room. As Cellotron mentioned, if you can't afford that or don't have access to it, try cultivating a circle of friends doing the same thing and trade off between yourselves. One thing that I do is press CDs and play them everywhere - the kitchen, ...

Re: Mastering on DP 3

I actually open the stereo mixdown file in Peak and trim and fade it there. When you "bounce to disc", you're bouncing everything. You'll have to make the sequence the exact length you want (by editing) if you want the bounce to be perfect, and if you want the bounce to fade out, you'll have to auto...

Re: Mastering on DP 3

I'm assuming that the goal is two have a stereo digital track which can be burned to CD for other people to listen to. I think we're having a communication problem here - we're not bouncing to two tracks and then using these two alongside all the multitracks; we're bouncing to two tracks to hear the...
