Re: AT4033 or RODE NT1 -NTK Tube mic

The 4033 is an excellent mic. Great for vox, acoustic guitar (as mentioned). Mic has a lot of detail and sounds great even thru a ****ty preamp. For what it's worth, I read it's Alan Parson's favorite mic on Vox.

Re: Blue Oysyer Cult

Pink Floyd (Pigs: Three Different Ones). Great artistic use of cowbell. However, the rest of the drums sound like crap on Animals.

Listen to the Moody Blues' "Go Now". That song defines the term "clipping" (on the lead vocals!).

Re: 2 inch tape machine purchase?!

I have an Ampex AG440 1" 8-Track (pre-MM, but same designs I think). This is an amazing sounding machine; a real workhorse. I use it to track drums/bass then dump it into digital for mixing/overdubbing. Another benefit of an 8-track is that you can use it as a mixdown deck for 5.1 mixes.

Re: What's in yer 5 disc changer?

Here's my list, at the risk of being stereotyped as a PF fan: 1. Pink Floyd: Smoking Blues (part 1); Live 1971 2. Pink Floyd: Smoking Blues (part 2): Live 1971 3. Pink Floyd: Pepperland in the West: Live 1970 4. Pink Floyd: Hammers: Live 1980 5. Pink Floyd: Live in Montreal, 1977 6. Rough mix of a n...

Re: A good stereo mic for around $350

Rode NT4.....awesome stereo mic, right in your price range. Has a fixed XY pattern (two capsules) and comes with 2 cables: XLR (5 pin stereo) to dual XLR (3 pin), and XLR (5 pin stereo) to mini-jack. It takes a 9 volt battery for phantom power where you don't have it via an external pre. This, combi...

Re: worst client ever

Rena, Apologies for the late reply to the post, but I just joined this BBS.....your post was hilarious, one of the funniest I have ever read. I was almost crying. You should really be a writer. I can't imagine being in the situation you described working with people who seem to be so suspect/illicit...

Narrative Recording....retakes

Hi: I am recording a narrative project (total about one hour of speaking, in 6 parts). The speaker (author), who is not a professional V.O. guy, wanted to do some "re-takes" after completing one section in which he didn't like his phrasing of certain sentences in that section. So I set up in the sam...

Re: The Creatures released a new album?!

I saw the Hyena tour at Irving Plaza in NYC. Robert didn't finish that leg of the tour because he had collapsed of exhaustion. That show was amazing....I was literally standing on stage left, right in front of the stacks (smart, eh?). I'll never forget Budgie's bass drum in "Israel". The highlight o...
