My dad a 58 flying V, 64 strat, and 52 les paul stolen from his apartment in the early 80's. He had the serial numbers, reported it to the police, and checked tons of local pawn shops. It was of no luck. Unfornunately once things get stolen like that they are just gone. You'd think that it would be ...

I've never done and AB comparison between 88.2 and 96 being bounced down to 44.1, but round off error does present a big problem when doing any calculation on a computer, this goes for any application, not just audio. So in some cases, I think that dividing by 2 will probably result in less roundoff...

I was in the same position 2 years ago. I went with the Otari MX5050. It is a 3-head machine, and has a much better transport. Overall it is much sturdier, and from what I've experienced listening, it sounds better than a 38 or TSR 8. I haven't heard the 48's or 58's they are supposed to be better t...

I wish I had access to a tube tester. Is there any way to tell whether the problem is the 6L6's on the input, or the 6V6 on the output?

I have never had the amp retubed. I bought it used, I think it is an earlier model. Still seems to have the original groove tubes in it.

it doesn't sound right, as in the volume level is not maintained consistently, and go get a reasonable volume, the volume knob needs to be set much higher than before, and then it sounds too distorted.

Vibro-King Problem

I the light bulb that indicates that my vibro-king is turned on, has burnt out. So because of this, I left my amp on stand-by for a very long time, i think about a week or so. After that, the amp just doesn't sound right. What could have gone wrong? I'm thinking that it might be the power tubes (6L6...

All the concepts you mentioned are quite accessible to people if they are willing to spend some time figuring them out. But trying to explain Fourier Transforms to someone who doesn't have any formal education past the high school level is quite an uphill battle. Most high schools do a very poor job...

There are several MX5050's. The MX5050 mkIII, is the the one most people have in mind when they talk about the 1/2'' 8 track. There is another incarnation of the MX5050 1/2'' 8 track that I have seen as well, where the transport, and the electronics are in seperate units. To the best of my knowledge...

I've not found anything yet about the nature and mode of travel of the electrical field The electrical field doesn't travel. An electrical field is first realized by a particle at a rate that is equal to the speed of light divided by the total distance between the source of the electric field, and ...

assuming the positive energy moves 'forward' while the negative energy moves backward. this is certainly incorrect. An electrical chargeis not itself energy, there is an energy associated with a charged particle. What is happening is that only negative charges "move". In a non ionized atom, the rem...

Agreed.

that machine likely does not exist, but one look at the headstack and you could be certain, and if it is on craigslist or something like that, you should post, alerting others to the fact that he either misinformed or lying.

So now I'm going to have to spend the rest of the evening trying to find something that will tell me how electricity moves through wire. Let me put my degree in physics to good use. The electrons inside of the wire are moving but moving very little. The movement of the electrons in the wire is not ...
