Danced my ass off when I saw them in 1999. Totally worth it live.

I debated getting one but opted instead to get the new M-Audio microtrack II -- the big reason is it has 1/4" L and R inputs WITH phantom power, which is really nice to have although I haven't used it with PP yet. I think it's around $300 but you might be able to get it for $250.

VLA +a zillion. DBX 160X/XT is nice, but I find the VLA to me much more transparent and usable on a wider variety of things.

Shucks, we're blushing. Another thing to note if you do periodically record to the boot drive: turn off journaling. It's basically OS X writing file system changes and logging everything in a journal -- good for many reasons, but not good for audio, as it takes up about 10% average power of the driv...

check and see if there's a firmware update for that device. What computer are you using? Lots of trouble with the new imacs and Macbooks firewire chipsets, made by Agere I believe. Try another device, heck, try recording straight through the 1/8" jack (if your machine has one) and see if it still gl...

I'm sort of working on one now that involves this train engine and some crew that were buried in Church Hill here in Richmond when the tunnel they were widening collapsed. It might make a nice EP.

As a fellow Virginian, I find anything Dave Mathews has to say to be complete BS. I'll likely watch this film, but his involvement makes me want to cringe. He and his management have destroyed live music in Charlottesville time and again. As far as I'm concerned, he is just as abhorrent as any fasci...

Tom couldn't get it to work under my old copy of FXPansion's VST-AU converter, so I guess I'll have to wait until the AU comes around. Looking forward to it.

That Pixies documentary is fantastic. I'd heard about it last year. Didn't realize Lanois did the score, he's all over it.

I saw this on GS this a.m. The guy said he'd take any solid offers over 30K. I'd love to groupbuy it and part it out. I mean, it would be nice historically to keep it in one piece but I don't see anyone at UA clamoring to buy it. BTW I got 1984 for my 13th birthday and it's a great record and all bu...

I just realized I bought an old copy of the FXPansion VST-AU thing a while back. I'll gladly test this out when I get down to the space tomorrow.

I don't know which is which, but it is stunningly brilliant playing. Seriously.
