Gotta mention the presonus firepod. It is an amazing piece, and has 8 real pres, 4 more than the 002.

I use it via a PCMCIA firewire card and am blown away by the sound.

I'm in love with the Presonus stuff. IMO, you can get some fantastic pres for little $$. I have the Firepod.

that is correct. i bought a PCMCIA firewire card and all is super happy.

PCI soundcard? That's not what it is for, simply the hookup to your cpu.

One is PCI, the other is firewire. I have the firepod and am very happy with it. It was $599. Are you sure they are the same price?

I traded the firepod in for another at GC with no problems.

Now the clip lites are red instead of the cool blue...wahhhh

Everything works perfectly and sounds great!

one thing to think about is that mic pres are compromised when powered only by the usb bus. There's not enough juice to make an outstanding pre.
