Re: Fender Champ
I had a red knob champ 12 - it wasn't bad but since it was sold/taken, (can't remember) haven't thought about it or looked for another. It's not anything even remotely close to a tweed, black or silver version (for ex. - EQ, distortion channel, reverb, fx loop maybe (?) and TERRIBLE direct out). I t...

Re: The new Ted Leo/Rx album...
yeah joe jackson, totally! i always got the elvis costello vibe, i guess they're pretty similar singers i agree with the general sentiment that the new stuff sounds a bit overproduced. i think it's alot closer to Avril than Hearts of Oak or Chisel. however, i dont know. if he made it to the big time...

Re: Live and Straight to Minidisc, baby!
at first i listened to one of the album tracks and I was gonna be like, minidisc, one mic, fucking lies! but then i realized it was actually the bottom links. pretty good - sounds like the shins. i actually much prefer the guitar sound on the live tracks, the studio stuff has that horrible piezo ton...

Re: im a genius! introducing the CASSETEOTRON!
That 24-tracks of vocals played by the faders idea was done/invented by Godley and Creme (of 10cc) way earlier, you can't hear it on I'm Not in Love. They actually had a bunch of weird-ass ideas.. they invented a 'Gizmo' that affixed to the bridge of your guitar/bass bridge and played the strings wi...

Re: Stephen Malkmus' Amp
How much money do you want to shell out? Both Orange and Matchless are very expensive- Matchless a little more on the astronomical side of things, figure at least 2000 for their more common stuff, their Ac-30-based model. I think it's called the DC30. Orange stuff is cool, definitely not as refined ...

phantom of the paradise: yes! one of my favorite weird-ass psuedo-musicals. its actually a room-sized analog synth called 'Tonto' I think that was used in the movie. beatles anthology: the transition things that pan across a room and play audio are pretty cool but nothing holds a candle to the shots...

Re: conan w/sonic youth
as a total aside... conan used to play drums. he lent a kit to some fellow harvard students once. that band was galaxie 500. if that's not enough CRED to have SY on his show, well, don't know what is.

use a 57 for vocal and stock four-track preamps. record with noise reduction ON and playback with noise reduction OFF.

Re: was this a waste of money?
are you serious? (about chicago)?
those are some pretty serious tones for a somewhat neglected band, at least guitar wise.
i mean, 'free form guitar'?? awesome.

class d? class h?!?
what's the difference between class a and discrete? i always thought big transformers and opamps as opposed to ICs where responsible for something being 'class a.'

Re: what distortion pedal do you use?
i might be echoing someone else, but- you want a mesa amp. all three of the artists you mentioned used mesa at one point, and as far as i know, cut their crucial records with those amps. save you pennies and score a good deal and you'll never even think about getting a pedal with one of these: nirva...

Re: r8, tsr-8 other 8track?
i know this was an old post but daydream nation was definitely NOT recorded on a tsr! perhaps you're referring to the goo demos which was done on something similiar. daydream nation and goo were both done at greene street- using a 2" studer. the only difference was goo was a neve console, and daydre...
