Isn't that amazing to even say? And for 200 bucks? What a deal. I should get one.

I use both extensively... and, I would guess that (knowing the settings used) I could tell you which was which. But, again... That doesn't matter much either. The true test (and obviously the only way you'll believe it) is to have both in your system and see which you go for most often. I agree tha...

I'd seriously like to A/B these units with identical plugins to believe that they are THAT different, especially the convolutions based on actual hardware units. Has anyone done that? Not that I don't appreciate your opinion, but there are folks out there that swear that hard drives sound different,...

UAD is an expandable system that covers amp modeling, reverbs, etc. on PCI cards, while the Liquid Mix is just EQ and compression connected to any computer with a firewire port. They are 2 different beasts, formats, and uses. The Liquid Mix is designed to be plug and play from machine to machine, an...

SONAR on a PC is excellent. I used mac for years with PT, logic, DP. Worked OK, hate the beach ball, hate the constant OS upgrades and the added expense of everything 'mac'. I was faced with the same question at upgrade time a couple of years ago, and I haven't regretted going PC for a minute. SONAR...

OK. No longer interested in trades. Cool. Thanks for the quick reply, Nate!

Great stuff at the Karma and naiant websites. Thanks for those links. I second the suggestion of PZMs as a room mic option, available cheap on the used market. 2 of them back to back is omni. 2 spread out on the front studio wall is great stereo!

MOTU makes the HD192 and 24i/o, line level in, no preamps. 12-24 channels, though.

I don't think that you'll getting complete soundproofing, but building a freestanding frame-within-a-frame room for the space would be fairly easy. Make the walls as heavy as you can. like the post above states. Carpet reduces a lot of bouncing sound, and treat the walls for absorption. It gets a li...

On most of the AKG 240 headphones I had, once they fall to the ground, that plastic ring comes off the outside of the earcup. I will not buy more of those for band or live work.

Not that I am a complete purist, but too many of the "studios" on this gallery site consist of a desk, a sampling keyboard, and a computer. Perhaps I am just a humbug, but where are the boards? The racks of gear? the drum sets? Oh, more and more I miss the "good ol' days"... FYI, I use a board and ...

I used the DA7 for years, and made a lot of good records with it. It sounds pro, and the converters are very good. What's the most cost effective way to get that good conversion into a computer? I'll need 16 tracks in and out. Any latency issues? I used PTLE, with an analog card and an ADAT card to...
