Re: How many guitar amps?

Re: I need help High Passing
The first few times I tried it, yeah, it didn’t do much for me. But when I tried it again a couple years later when I had a sub in my monitoring setup, it made a huge difference. Like night and day. Typically top and bottom mics are equally loud in the mix for me. Now anytime I’m mixing something wh...

Re: I need help High Passing
Does anybody high pass toms? 80 Hz? Maybe not the floor tom? always. rack toms usually 60-70Hz ish. floor toms often around 50-60Hz. i am usually working with toms that are tuned pretty low. i literally high pass everything except the kick drum on like 95% of my mixes. most things don't get cuts ab...

where are you using these things? i'm thinking about getting one, but there aren't a ton of things i mic in stereo. drum overheads/room or acoustic guitar is all that really come to mind - and i rarely get acoustics in the projects i work on. i'm sure i could put one on a guitar cab here and there, ...

i know there are quite a few out there. most critical is 2 or 3 1" 16 track reels I have - my MS16 may have finally died. have a couple 1/2" 8 track reels i may toss in as well. these projects have more or less non-existent budgets, so round and wound seems most appealing, as it's cheapest i've come...

i have a few of their products. i don't use them often but i did notice the other day that they're causing protools to crash if i start it. fortunately for me, i rarely use protools - normally mix in cubase.
it's a shame, they sound pretty good, especially for the money.

Re: Sebatron
Lately I stick any inside kick condensers (d71c usually), my overheads (josephson c42 usually) and bass cab mic (usually blue mouse w transformer), but I’ve used it plenty for dynamics on guitars, ribbon overheads, and the DI for bass with good results. To each their own, certainly. It def isn’t as ...

don't see much love for their gear here and their VMP got a fairly lukewarm review in the magazine some years back (seemed to say it was kind of mid-range gear?), but I gotta say, I have a four channel VMP and it might actually be my favorite pre - and I have plenty of heavy hitters in my lineup - C...

Re: Best vocal mic under 2K?
you could get a Soundelux U195 and an SM7 both new for less than $2k - prob enough to buy a nice mic pre, too. those two cover an awful lot of bases for me, and can be workhorses in other capacities as well.

Re: mastering for cassette
it's a sludgy stoner-metal band. def downtuned guitars. plenty of low end content, but not terribly different from most records I do. literally never had an issue like this before, but admittedly unsure how critical other bands are regarding their cassette production.

Re: mastering for cassette
same here!
they say they cannot print hotter due to low frequency content. i did the second version with the high pass and they came back and said it wouldn't make much difference.

apologies if this has been discussed recently - found nothing in the search. i have been going back and forth with a client who sent in their recording for cassette duplication. they are very happy with how the digital file sounds. cassette came back sounding fine but with relatively low level compa...
