Use the AAC encoder in iTunes set to the highest bit rate that will squeeze you in under 2 megs. It isn't gonna be pretty though...

How do you guys handle compressing your overheads? Thus far, I've used two inserts on the separate left and right overhead channels with two mono compressors with identical settings. Would it be better to link the compressors so that they behave identically like a stereo compressor, or send the two ...

One of the first things i'll do when working in digital is to high pass everything. Get rid of what you don't need. It does amazing things =)

Try somehting more like this for EQ, even before reaching for compression. First, low cut around 30 or 40hz, sometimes I will even do more. If you're tracking into the digital domain with a DAW situation, then try using an onboard compressor/limiter as a plugin for tracking. I've found the initial signal to be cleaner and you can always run the sound back out of the box later for some analog compression. Don't getme wrong here, I love ...

This is kind of the New York compression trick (if I understood your post correctly) its done often on drums where a stereo submix of the drums is sent out to a buss with a compressor on it.
