You could always put in a GFI box, but thats certainly no replacement for a proper safety ground. Not gonna solve any noise issues, but if the sprinklers go off, at least the circuit trips fast. ABSOLUTELY NOT. You must have a proper ground for a GFCI to operate correctly. Oftentimes, the metal box...

Hey Soundguy: Isn't true, though, that aluminum is better than steel in RF shielding, but not as good as soft steel in EM shielding -esp. magnetic fields, so that you have to decide whether RF or EM/magnetic fields are more important in one's application? I also believe the Parmetal 12 series has pa...

Re: dynaco pas-3 tube preamp hi-fi stereo thingy
This is a GREAT deal. My intermediate and high schools both had Dynaco gear, with Empire turntables, and Wharfedale!!!! speakers with sand-filled cabinet walls (double-walled, in other words). You should, however, be prepared to do a lot of work, at last replacing the PS caps, and perhaps some of th...

Re: can someone please give me the definition of Class A?
Within Class A, there is a distinction between Class A1 and Class A2. At this point, i can't remember the precise definition of each. Maybe Soundguy can help. The theory of Class A that most amp designers are trying to achieve is to avoid cross-over distortions of various types. The most insidious i...

Re: A Hard Days Night Chorused?!
I just listened to selections from the Miramax collector's edition of HDN, and now I can hear the phasing/"chorusing" in at least three songs - title track, "I Should Have Known Better," Can't Buy Me Love." Only watched once before with my daughter (12 years old) and we were more focused on the imag...

Re: A Hard Days Night Chorused?!
I have the DVD, but listened to it only on my 25 year old RCA TV. Did not detect the "chorusing" that you are speaking about. By the way, there are at least two versions of "I Should Have Known Better" and "Can't Buy Me Love" in the US over the years. I had the original LP release of Hard Days Night...

Re: Bleeding capacitors
Let's be a lttle safer: 1. Use a resistor with a higher resistance value, on the order of 10K. it will take longer to discharge, but then again, the reistor won't burn up. 100 ohms is pretty low and you may get a surge and a large burst of heat 9and burnt fingers, not to mention adverse effects on n...

Re: Washington DC
Depends where you are going to be going to - that is, you wouldn't want to stay in MD if you actually aregoing to be going to "work" in VA. Or are you actually staying in DC? What is your budget?

I'm an idiot
OK, I'll admit to being an idiot. I bought the Behringer MX2004. After my mixer went up in smoke with barely more than 5 uses, I'd say the adage, "You get what you pay for," is true. And I have no-one to blame, I always try and buy the best that I can afford (poor amateur that I am), so I should hav...
