Have you already tried some of the Drum Drops samples? I have a lot of luck sampling both phrases and single hits and even ambient room tone from these.

I have CDR's from 1994 that play fine. I have vinyl from 1948 that plays fine. I have cassettes from 1979 that play fine. I have CD-Rs from 1998 that won't play. I'm not a betting man, but my money is simplicity over complexity. Roger Hodge wrote: "[W]hat the landscape of West Texas suggests is tha...

Joel--

Absolutely. You could reduce "Little Red Corvette" to 8-bit and I'd still get a boner everytime I hear it.

That's just me, maybe. But still.

Re: Apple "Lossless" file compression

I wonder, honestly, how many of us actually listen to music in a nice quiet house, on a nice system, and give it our complete attention? I haven't spent a single moment doing that since 1997, when my kids started being born. No offense, but I had the opposite experience. Understand that my wife and...

Octava MK219

For the price you cannot beat an Octava MK219. What a 57 does for guitars, this does for most singers.

Speaking of which... two phenomena

(1) My neighbor gave me a jug of red wine for Christmas -- backyard vineyard, basement winery -- and I believe it has hallucinogenic properties (as well as a direct connection with the migraine switch in my medulla oblongdrunka). (2) The TO Ribbons have a nice feature I just discovered: You can juic...

I'd rather have a free bottle in front of me than a pre-frontal lobotomy.

But really -- either way? -- I'm good.

You should contact Dan Rugh. He's not too far from you, spatially, and he has done great work for me and some folks I know. Cheap, honest, and graphically geniusish.

Grapes, figs and persimmons? Crap. I've got rapists, crips and curmudgeons in my backyard. Try listing THAT.

Tascam forums are dead.

This is some sad news. There were some really valuable people doing some really valuable things for TapeOppy kind of people over there: It's been a privilege and pleasure serving you as creator and host of this forum for the past 20 months. Unfortunately, Tascam Forums musts cease to exist as of ton...

I don't think I'd ever front the cash for one, but if you can borrow a Mesa lonestar Special, it's a great amp for recording. But since Shawn1272 mentioned an AC-30, I guess I can mention this. I still am a fan of the Pathfinder 15R, btw. It just takes some getting used to mic'ing it.

Here's a review by Harvey Pekar.

Re: How many here from the old TapeOp board?

I used to be tractpunx. But then once? When there was the big ice storm? I came home to find the power had gone out, shutting down various operations-in-process, like our aquarium. Floating fish bobbed languidly on the surface of a chilly and oxygen-deprived cess pool. When we replaced the fish, one...
