Re: 21,000 dead in Asia.

I've had a hell of a time trying to find detailed info on Thailand! I know Phuket got it pretty badly, but the earthquake alone must have damaged other areas. I visited there a few years ago & was planning on going back next year- I still want to go back, but I don't know how much of what I saw befo...

Re: Help me buy headphones for my studio!

I've got the AKG240's, the Sony 7406 (?) and the Sennheiser MD280 and can say that the Sennheiser's are the go to pair for drum tracking. Really? Man, I don't know what they did to the AKG240's before I started working here, but they SUCK! It's mostly the fact that they're falling apart, but the cl...

Re: Help me buy headphones for my studio!

only kidding, there have been a lot of threads like this tho, but i got a set of sony mdr-7506's they are pretty cool, sound decent to my ears, are comfortable, and are pretty isolated. They are around a 100 bucks. Believe it or not, I actually did wade through a ton of posts to get some ideas, but...

Help me buy headphones for my studio!

I think I managed to convince one of the higher powers at my studio that we need some new cables, mics, cans, etc. I know what to do as far as cables & mics go, but I need some headphone suggestions. We currently have a couple decent pairs of old Fostex headphones of some sort (which I actually real...

Re: What prod. techniques (that you do, or have done) just s

When I first graduated I got an ASSload of really terrible internships. Not even working my ass off internships- I was basically learning nothing for a good 6 months. As a result of this, I was pretty out of practice. So, when I got my first "real" studio job, I agreed to record my room mate's demo ...

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

Well, shit. That's what emoticons are supposed to be for, but I guess my ;-) didn't convey my intent. Truly sorry for the misunderstanding- it didn't occur to me that it could be taken the wrong way! Please accept this one-eyed green smiley as a peace offering. May he look upon you with good fortune...

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

(sigh) If you actually read what I wrote, you'll notice that I never said ANYTHING about your abilities. My original post was not at all negative. I don't know you. For all I know you could be a recording prodigy. I'm sure you could handle an internship or even an entry level position at a studio- I...

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

Aw. You poor little weenie. This has nothing to do with your age or my confidence or skills. I posted my original response because I was genuinely impressed by a young engineering student who had the nads to go for a great job offer regardless of his experience. I wish I had the nerve to do that now...

Re: Sound On Sound (NYC) hiring General Assistants

we wouldn't email you back, we'd call and leave a message. we're like, serious, and shit Oh yeah. (insert sheepish grin here) I almost forgot about the whole phone thing. Hehe....I've been at the same place for a while- the prospective employee/employer communication process has kinda escaped me......

Re: Sound On Sound (NYC) hiring General Assistants

My spam filter is pretty good but every so often a message or two I DO want does sneak through into there so I check it at least once a week. Yeah, every once in a while I'll check it on a whim & there'll be something I actually want in there. It's just a pain in the butt because I can get up to 20...

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

You have a bit of a tone as well, my dear. We'll see if that changes after the first time the guy you're interning for puts a boot up your ass for your little "'tude" Oh, and I'm not an old man. I'm actually in my mid-20's. And female. It's ok, darlin'. I thought I knew everything when I was 18, too.

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

Well, I WASN'T joking. In the past I've gone for jobs that I TOTALLY wasn't qualified for, actually got the position and it gave me a leg up as far as experience and pay. Now that I've gone to school and trained to do something, I tend to apply for jobs that are pretty much at my skill level. Maybe ...

Re: Sound On Sound (NYC) hiring General Assistants

I've sent in my resume a couple times- I'll happily send it again! Silly question- if I got a response from Sound on Sound, is it possible that my spam filter put it in my bulk folder? I usually just empty that without reading it. Anyway, I don't mind long hours, I work my butt off, & I'm a kick-ass...

Re: Haunted Recording Studio!

I have no haunted studio stuff to report, but if you do a Google search for EVP, or Electronic Voice Phenomena, you'll come up with scads of WAV files, etc. on any number of different sites. Well, I did it, and though I am a pretty dedicated skeptic, that stuff spooked the crap out of me. Check out...

Re: NYC-Looking for a Studio Partner or Engineer

I wish I had the 18 year old's balls! If he starts at that age & keeps going for studio jobs he's underqualified for, he's going to be a Grammy winning engineer by the time he's 25!
