Smoking Behringer

Yesterday, I received my three HM-1 SD condenser mikes from KEL Aduio (www.KELaudio.com). To test them, I pulled out a Behringer mixer (MX 2004A) which I bought two years ago and have used less than 6 times. During that time, it has been sitting in an SKB case with a dehumidier pack. I plugged the f...

Re: Long Snakes

Any decent snake is going to be wrapped with a wire shield within its sleeve. This metal netting within the snake should reject most outside signals... I bleive, based upon research i jsut did, that ost snakes at the lower price range are shielded with foil, not with copper braid (I assume this is ...

Re: HIT FACTORY NYC CALLS IT AN ERA......

Studios - even famous ones - hcome and go, and have come and gone over the last 40 years. The closing of The Hit Factory is no different. Moreover, it is a family business, so when the guy who ran it died, well, the history of family-owned businesses in general would be sufficient to tell you that t...

Re: tube amp question

Just because tubes are new does not mean that they are free from microphonics. Currently manufactured tubes are worse that NOS tubes, and that's just one reason why a lot of persons pay high prices for NOS.

It is possible that bad caps vcould be causing your problem but it is most unlikely.

Having an opinon

I don't agree with your position. I noted many other instances on this forum (there is one right now on RCA mikes) where individuals other than sellers posted comments on the reasonableness of an asking price. As far as the PM suggestion, I believe I clearly stated that I was offering a warning (opi...

Re: Late '70's Vintage Harman Kardon 560 Stereo

Well, sorrrryyyyyy. But OK, since I was called to task, let me step up to the challenge to justify my posting. First, it WAS intended to discourage a sale. $75.00 for a 1970's HK receiver is, shall I say, pricey. I've seen stuff like that thrown away, even though it was working. The local used-stere...

Re: Late '70's Vintage Harman Kardon 560 Stereo

Anyone who wants to buy transistor junk, step right up to the plate here.

The only Harmon Kardon stuff that is considered classic is from the late 50's to mid 1960s.

Let the buyer beware.

Aligning a TT cartridge

Look through the instructions for the TT, there may be an alignment protractor (printed page with circles and lines representing the tangent line to the circle at that point). You set alignment by first setting tangency at the outer circle, and then at the inner circle, and going back and forth for ...

marking the splice block

A little hint: Mark the splice block with a line exactly the same distance from the head gap as the grease pencil marking point is from the head gap. An easy way to do this is to position the splice between the leader and the tape exactly on the head gap. Mark the leader with the grease pencil at yo...

Re: VU meters, are they more useful than LED meters and why.

The modulation is generally not as deep as AM radio, but if you hang a scope across the record head of a tape machine you will see the audio modulating the bias tone. Tim. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the AM modulation of a carrier is a little bit diffeernt than the "modulation" of t...

Re: Home on Christmas Break...Need something to do...DIY??

you know i think parting out the components yourself actually costs more than buying kits..at least for many i've seen..the kit people buy all the stuff with quantity discounts.. I believe that there are a number of purposes for doing it yourself, and saving money is NOT one of them. I think DIY al...

Re: 60hz hum from an analog drum machine..

Careful with that two to three cord grounding scheme. If it was designed as a double-insulated component, then grounding the internal chassis could cause problems. And it probably is a real no-no if there is no transformer. Before doing that, I would replace the PS caps, AND any bypass caps near any...
