Thanks T-Rex - those are the tihngs I was looking for. It was an insightful look at the pros & cons. I may get one in the future because I do have 2 ADATS. And having an ADAT/Mackie setup might be good for clients who want (or have) ADAT projects. Plus it might actually be a lot of fun, to have an s...

what are you going to use it for? I know the obvious - DAW's have their own mixer, but I was wondering if there was something I'm missing. I see a lot of studios with Pro Tools - AND Mackies... Maybe there's some benefit? I dunnno - just wanted to know what people own both have to say - and why the...

Pro Tools & Mackie 8-Buss Mixers - Why?

I've always - ALWAYS, ALWAYS wanted a Mackie 8-buss... On a hot summer day, I would walk into the air-conditoned Pro-Audio dept in Sam-Ash and simply drool over them. Anyone with me here? So nowadays, I'm a Pro Tools HD2 owner. BUT - I still want a Mackie. I'm not sure it would add any value to my s...

I've gotta assume that people who think these things are "not an issue" have never really used a reamp box. I've tried both ways (with and without a reamp box) and unless you don't care what it sounds like, these things are most certainly issues. You can get some kind of reamp box for a lot less th...

Not sure what you mean by "real" patchbay. I have one that is a DBX 48-point rack mount patchbay.

are you using a reamp box? if not, you're sending a waaay hot signal to your amp's input. I'm not even sure what one is? My signal chain is this: Pro Tools 96 interface into a DBX patchbay with "patch-bay" cables (not known if they're balanced or unbalanced). From patchbay right into my Marshall. I...

no. that direct box probably brings your bass level up to microphone level. then you plug the output of your DI into the MIC IN on the preamp. OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhh !!!! So do you mean that the Pro-Co turns the bass signal into what's known as a "Hi-Z" ?? If so, it makes sense. My UA 2-610...

Really? Hmmmm..... I have one of those "passive" Pro-Co direct boxes. It has no power or anything. Does that unit REALLY make my guitar signal go up to a line-level? I'm not 100% what the jack on the mic-pre is labeled. I'll have to google it. I'll get back to you. Oh, and thanks for the really quic...

Behringer ULTRAGAIN Mic-Pre (Weak BASS Singal) What Gives?

I have a Behringer BEHRINGER ULTRAGAIN PRO MIC2200. When I plug my bass into the 1/4" jack (in the back), I get a weak (at best) signal. Why? I figured it's a mic-pre, so anything plugged into it should be brought up to proper level. Is this a balanced/unbalanced issue? Is this jack only meant for l...

RE-AMP Clarification

First off, many thanks to all who helped me out with the MIC-PREAMP/Marshall Cabinet topic! This brought up another question: I record a guitar part directly from my UA2-610 mic-pre right into Pro Tools and I monitor using amp Farm. (pretty standard). Then, my goal is to get a killer performance, an...

MIC Preamps Through Marshall Cabinets - HOW DO I DO THIS?

Does anyone have any experience with running a signal through a mic-pre (that accepts instruments) and outputting the signal to a Marshall cab? I'd like to play some (previously) recorded material (that originally went in direct from an old Marshall I used to own) and I want to run it through my Gre...

I agree with the response. Increase "minimal" to more mics. Try the Glyn johns method (lot's of details on this site). I did and got FANTASTIC results from 4 mics. http://www.bradjacob.com/music/chaos.mp3 This mix here uses a Top, Side, Front, Kick. the snare comes from the top mic looking striahgt ...

I happen to think it sounds great. Open and clear. No confliting EQ freqs. The production is great as well.

And on top of that, the song is great too! It's better than a lot of the crap that's out there.

Great job dude...

3 New Jazz Songs - For Y'all...

Hey Everyone, Recently I read some post on this site about the Glyn johns method and a lot of you contributed to the post. I got a lot out of the reading and tried this method out. I found that I got great results in my basement (with carpet on the walls) studio. I run a Pro Toold HD2 rig and run th...
