I wouldn't touch visit till at least a year after it's release. It's going to take that long or more for DAWs to get the bugs worked out with it. I'm in agreement about getting a MAC, though. I had an HP at one point and I'm very happy that I went over to the darkside and got a Powerbook. I've had t...

Wow, thanks for all the great advice, people. This has been the most civilized DAW thread I've ever seen. No bashing. A peaceful calm has replaced the anxiety that I was feeling by being so overwhelmed by all the possibilities available to me. I'm confident that whatever software I choose I will be...

I've used a number of different DAWs in the past: Audition (Cool Edit Pro), N-Track, Tracktion, FL Studio, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Garage Band, Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, etc. It took me several years to decide on the ones I liked using the most. Cool Edit Pro is what I used first and it did a good job...

The biggest sign is right near the beginning of the song. A note slides completely out of tune. Most of the other stuff is subtle but very noticeable. It's not just the YouTube compression, though, as I had friends who heard it live and agreed that something was up.

It seems that the price is still $50 for these if you search for them on the MF website.

I spent 10 years in IT and my wife would have left me (and I would have went crazy) had I not finally gotten out of it. While I know my business isn't going to make any money for a while (everything is going to be going back into the business for at least a couple years), I am much happier and the a...

If it doesn't have more than 4 pres or a significant boost in simultaneous inputs, I'm probably just going to send my 002R and get the BlackLion mod. It'd be cheaper and do me just as well.

2. Soda bottles are OK but you must put the cap on when it's not in your hand. 3. Coffee goes in one of those tumblers with a nice tight lid. If it gets knocked over, only a little will come out at a time. This usually gives you a chance to catch it before too much damage is done. Those are real sm...

Check out Michael Jolly's mics at Oktavamod and if you can squeeze Scott Helmke for an Alice mic I can testify it's got incredible output and has been extremely versatile for me, even in x/y config's with LDC's. The AT 3035 rocks and anything in the 40 series (4050, 4047 or 4033). I have an Apex 46...

As a rule of thumb the answer should be NO. Accidents can and will happen. I'm sympathetic as I like something wet to help pass the time. These are rules that I feel help minimize the risk. 1. No cans or glasses. These are the easiest to spill. 2. Soda bottles are OK but you must put the cap on when...

I thought about getting a pair but decided against it. I have a number of 'cheap' mics and I think it's time to save up for something a bit more nice.

So, I guess I should most certainly put 1 or 4 SM57s on my list. :) So far, those and the Shiny Box are on top of my list.

Keep em coming! These all sound like good suggestions so far. BTW, if you all haven't heard of Kel...check them out. They have some nice mics and I enjoy my HM-1 a lot (http://www.kelaudio.com). I really dig the Shiny Box mic and I think that's going to be one at the top of my list since I enjoy sup...

Mic upgrades

Okay, so I've collected a number of low budget mics over the past few years. Sure, some of them are pretty darn good mics for the price. I'm looking to start saving up for mics that are a step above what I already own. Right now I have enough mics to record just about anything that I need to but I'm...
