I've been buying up old beaters to practice my repair skills. Usually Harmonys and Uniteds. Basically anythin...

Re: $25 boundary mic

I left my pair plugged in to the Focusrite, sitting on whatever surface was available, the last time I was recording some random song/riff ideas in my spare room studio. A lot less fuss than messing with mics, stands, and cables, for what I was doing. They picked up my chair squeaking pretty well. R...

Re: 21st Century Stereo Mix Down Deck

I have one of the early Zoom recorders (H4), it will record wav or mp3 (with a couple different bit rates), onto SD cards, it has a couple of analog inputs (xlr combo jacks). Maybe something like that will suffice? Mine is still going strong 15? years later, the newer models are probably better. Thi...

Summer of Soul

Thanks for the tip on this one @digitaldrummer !
I had no idea this happened. Quite a bit of talent on this one. 1969 was a great year for music (this festival got overshadowed
by Woodstock).

the ads are annoying (that's what we have too) but I just use the mute button.
Other than at the beginning, I didn't notice the ads much.
Watching "Eight Days A Week" now, I loved the 3, 2, 1.
99 cents well spent!

Re: McCartney 3,2,1

Going to see this one soon.
Hulu is running a special for the "with ads" version - 99¢ a month for a year. I think I can justify that.

Re: Plug-in suggestions for the minimalist studio

Maybe a stupid question, but how much of this gear did you bring, and how did you handle switching the voltage (I think you moved from the US?)?

1971 (doc on Apple TV)

About 3 episodes in, this one's good too. I forgot Alice Cooper went that far back.

Re: Hammond Fluid Column Reverb

That song is great, the reverb unit sounds fascinating. I never heard about them before. Wasn't there an old stompbox that has oil in it? https://www.dairiki.org/HammondWiki/FluidTypeReverb I think you're thinking of the Tel Rey oil can delay/echo - https://stangguitars.com/products/vintage-tel-ray...

Re: $25 boundary mic

Got 'em today, and gave them a 5 minute test, hanging on push pins on 2 different walls of my bedroom studio. You have to hit the power switches on them every time you power up the mixer/interface (could be a deal breaker for some applications, I guess). Phantom power, mini XLR to XLR (cable supplie...

Re: $25 boundary mic

Just ordered a couple. I always thought I missed the boat on the ones (Radio Shack?) everyone else has.
What's the typical "music recording" use for these - on the wall behind drums?

Plus, free candy! It did trigger a lot of SW rep phone calls though.
