The Kids Are Alright - The Who I'm playing that tune on a show in DC Friday night. Gotta love it. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC One of my all time favorite songs. Such a classic! Forgive me musicians and recordists, for I am about to sin... I don't friggen' get it.. That abnoxious number drives me nut...

If you rack them right together they might make slight contact. There's a margin between them, but nothing more than the width of a few sheets of paper. I've had issues where I let gravity pull everything down, and it makes for a really really tight squeeze when you get to the bottom rack.. Sometime...

Here's your solution. You'll be glad you did.. Even if you're only saving the life of a $50 compressor, you still win. Plus, it's just feels good to have your stuff in a rack. I I bought like 3 of these when I started buying rack gear, and they filled up fast - considering some things take 3 racks p...

Re: Good CD's to Reference, Study, or Obsess for mixing...

I know this might end up getting relocated, but I figured referencing CD's for mixing is more of appreciating an engineer's technique than appreciating someone's music - so I went with recording techniques. Alright.. Mixing sucks.. Sometimes I spend days stuck on one song, trying to mix and master,...

Peace and Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpd24yVy5C4 Dude, I totally thought I was in for a compression video.. That was random, but what a prick.. That is really Ringo, right? He'd be better off just not responding - I don't think I needed the forewarning, but now I guess I won't be disapoint...

+ another for a clip.. How many mics are you using on drums? My mixes got a lot cleaner when I started gating the toms, making sure the room and overheads weren't phasing eachother, and running anything that isn't a spot mic through a high pass filter. Compression could probaby help the 'woofy-ness'...

Computer monitor is usually my biggest buzzer, I turn it off when tracking.. I get it everywhere though, if I'm too close to my amp, too close to my racks.. I just find the quietest spot and go with it.

Damnit, I just saw a couple in someone's equipment list, and I can't remember whose.. I know that was completely pointless to say, but I guess I'm just letting you know there's hope..

I had a friend master some songs. He's not a pro, but he's looking to better his skills. When I got them back the first word that came to mind was "pumping". It's when the there is an unatural breathing sound and feel to the music. Adjusting the attack and release times can usually clean it up prett...

Canned loops can be a really fantastic catalyst for creation. I don't know that they belong in finished recordings (unless they sound right for whatever reason), but the ability to bang out a drum track in 5 minutes or less can be really helpful when you know you want to arrange a 3-minute pop tune...

I don't get the Pro VLA.. It's just one of those things, I guess.. I owned one for 2 years and sold it about 3 months ago - ended up buying an old Orban 674 paragraphic with the money.. I don't regret it at all, that old dinosaur EQ warms up my recordings far more than the Pro VLA ever did. My main ...

Trent Reznor is definitely a candy ass. But, it's got nothing to do with loops. I knew there was a reason he's been the star of all my biggest fantasies.. I'm not even gay.. Not even a little bit.. Not even a smidgen, but I'd bend that Jolly Rancher flavored ass in those tight leather pants right o...

Maybe someone can clarify thisfor me, but it's my understanding that when you drive them into the red, the burr browns give you a wamer, more pleasant kind of grit. I have 4 channels stock, at the time I wanted 4 consistent channels. Sometimes I regret not getting 2 BB Opamps, but I have no complain...
