ProTools on a Mac laptop for remote use....what do you use?

Hey all, I have a clamshell IBook, the last ones they made (467MHz, firewire) and an mbox for remote recordings. I only do stereo remote work, and I record to an external drive, which I just connect to the TDM system when I get back to the studio. I have used the mbox for overdubs three or four time...

Re: looking for ric 330 copy

Wow, cool. I had a Turser 335 copy for a while. I bought it used for $199. For a cheap guitar, it wasn't that bad. I was just figuring out that I liked the sound of hollowbodies better. Of course, the Turser was a cheap guitar, it had the narrow cheap guitar neck, I could never get the B string to i...

a copy sold a sears? man, if you find anything about this, post it here. Those dudes at rickenbacker seem to be right on top of anyone copying their stuff.

Re: Any XTC Fans Here?

the organ break in "the smartest monkeys" on nonesuch out-progs most prog-rock. and that bothers me that they can pull that off as a 15 second break in a song, like an afterthought. a well thought out afterthought.

Re: moog taurus bass...anybody?

The Taurus II is not as good as the original Taurus, the Taurus II is basically a Moog Rouge, but with foot pedals. It Just doesn't have the oomph of the original. The Taurus II does have a C to F octave and a half pedalboard, which was nice. I saw a band that was kinda acoustic/not quite rock/ not ...

Re: analog board summing from DAW question

yeah, you still need to use the two outs that it's assigned to pan back and forth between. otherwise, it has nowhere to really pan to.

hope this helps

NYDave: Thank you for the articulate, explanation-filled reply. I've got a good amount of knowledge about electronics, but it's like I've got a box of legos...I am learning to build better and more comlicated things, where before, I could only identify the small parts individually. I am just learnin...

really technical question about 12ax7 in preamp of gtr amp

sorry for the fuzziness, but here's the deal. I'm modding an amp right now it was this: http://www.auroraseven.com/jerry/12ax7.jpg and I changed it to this: http://www.auroraseven.com/jerry/12ax7two.jpg please excuse the messyness, I'm on my laptop, and the trackpad is a little tough for graphics. s...

Re: Go buy the Focusrite isa428 w/ the digital card..

I have used the isa428 once, the same day I borrowed two of those fancy focusrite channels strip ones (isa110s?) to do a location recording of a folk concert at 192kHz. When I brought all the equipment back to the guy that loaned it to me, I was all "giddy schoolgirl" about those preamps...so much s...

Re: calibration

You can use a 250nWb/m to calibrate, you just need to set your repro levels to +3vu where it calls for you to set them to 0vu. I have a 250nWb/m tape from MRL and I have this written down on the inside of the box: This tape is 250 nWb/m Set repro meter to:0vu For:"+3vu level" or 250nWb/m Set repro m...

Re: XLR to 1/4" TRS adpater questions

Typically it is:
Pin 1 = Sleeve
Pin 2 = Tip
Pin 3 = Ring

and that should do it for you.

Re: repairing a speaker cone

a home vacuum, the kind that has the slider on the side to regulate pressure, maybe? I guess it would matter how dented the cones is...if it's creased real bad you may be screwed. I popped one back with masking tape once, and quick too, so the boss wouldn't catch me.

Re: HELP!!! POWER SUPPLY JUST BLEW ON SONDTRACS TOPAZ

Is there an external fuse? Is it blown? Are there multiple external fuses? Sometimes ther is a fuse on the V+rail, the V- rail and on the Phantom rail. Thios would help narrow the problems, but since you didn't say, I'm going to guess it doesn't have them. If you're good with the multimeter and the ...

Re: A puzzler for y'all.

you could have a machine shop clean the threads with a tap. I don't know how well they will clean out though, and if they are severely worn, you may not even be able to cut new threads. i don't think that hardware stores have taps that big. just find out what a mic stand is supposed to have for thre...
