Dither (to my ears) makes program material sound eq'd differently, usually brighter. The EQ shape of old school dither was fairly broadband, and easily heard. Newer dither shapes are focused into the high mid to high ranges, sounding more like hiss when heard all by themselves. This "hiss" can have ...

Your first two paragraphs I already knew...I just don't understand the point of this particular product. Let's say this CD contains "better" dither than the dither Sound Forge uses. Instead of mixing to 24 bits in Tracktion and then "mastering" in Sound Forge then dithering down to 16 bits from the...

Re: Crane Song analog dither CD

How would you go about using something like this? http://www.cranesong.com/analogdither.html How's it different from the dither I would employ using, say, Sound Forge? This comes from the analog industries blog. I didn't know something like this existed, in a form you could just, like, plop into yo...

I've run ProTools M-Powered in both Mac and Windows on my Mac Book Pro. Works great.

Mac hardware is overpriced. You can do the same job for half the price, Windows only. Macs sure are nice tho...

Does CD Architect allow exporting to a 24bit wav file yet (for archiving)?

I'll second the vote for SawStudio and the JMS Cue Sheet Generator. Those cue sheets work nicely in Exact Audio Copy (free!)

Acoustic 118 replacement speakers - recommendations?

Hi, I picked up an Acoustic 118 bass combo last night to mess around with. Needs a speaker. Amp is 8ohm, 55 watts, 15 inch speaker. I play a '63 pbass with flat wounds, usually turn the treble off. I like a thick, slightly fuzzy, compressed tone. I may also try to plug my upright into it on gigs... ...

What sound sounds like to someone is based upon in part what that person grew up listening to. The engineer who grew up in an audiophile home would have a tremendous head start over the person who rocked his clock radio. Check out live performances with an analytical ear, especially if the artists f...

http://www.myspace.com/mattmahaffey Matt's stuff is great. He had a song (This Is Love) on a soundtrack I mastered last year, one of my favorite tunes on the record, pure pop confection. He told me it was originally the opening number in Shrek 2 until they replaced it at the last moment for a Count...

Hi, Rebecca submitted the cover of Dream On to an "idol" podcast (it's why we cut it in the first place). The judges were not very nice, but external feedback has been kinder. http://www.coverville.com/ If so inspired, please vote. They are also hosting a nice 320k mp3 of the tune: http://coverville...
