remote
I do a lot of remote recording with a digi 002R and a m-audio octane in a rack case along with a powerbook. Usually bring a splitter box and a sixteen channel snake to split at the stage, one to my setup one to the FOH. I'll usually bring a few mics along too, especially if it's at a smaller club wh...

What an ass..... He lost me at "Home Studios are Killing Music." I mean, if you can't balance time between putting together your studio and writing music and being creative maybe you just suck at life.

John, with respect, I think the "snobbery" comment was more based on the fact that you didn't offer much to answer the original poster's question. Simply saying "that's a bad idea" without offering an alternative is what I believe led to jmligt's comment. I think most of us understand that what you...

mackie tracktion
I also use the "final mix" plugin on the Mackie Tracktion program to mixed results. I think it's a good introduction to multi-band compression and applying different EQ to the entire mix. Also, the price was right, I got it back when mackie was giving this stuff away. I would never fool myself into ...

splitter
Why not just get a splitter box and split the signal before the mixer rather than after? Then you wouldn't have to worry about sending every channel out through your mixers. Something like this http://www.whirlwindusa.com/split.html

I have the E-Mu PK-6 and it has great organ sounds, ok acoustic piano and shitty electric piano sounds IMHO. Non-weighted keyboard. Cost around $400 new. Other than that it has a lot of good synth sounds and a decent control surface. It also has slots for other ROMs if you want to expand it a bit......

Thanks for pointing out my idiocy. I haven't been made out to be an ass in public for a long time. Looks like I'll be making up a cable or wiring a 1/4" jack into this thing. Look forward to hearing it now. Thanks for your help....

FC's prices might not be the "best", but they are usually pretty easy to talk down on the price. Their reps are pretty knowledgable and, as stated before, their customer service is great. My only complaint about them is that they don't list all of their prices online, which means you have to call th...

ampex 620
I recently aquired an ampex 620. My dad picked it up at a flea market for me for $5. The ampex 620 is an amplifier/speaker combo built into a little suitcase. The power cord was missing so I wired up another one I had laying around. Unfortunately I plugged it in and it doesn't pass audio. It powers ...

newest recordings, any thoughts?
My band started recording our 2nd cd back in June and we have these 3 songs completely done. I always like the constructive criticism I've got here in the past, so let's hear it... Letter Home to My Wife This Place is so Hard to be a Part of God Lives in My Basement All recorded at our practice spac...

Re: Wilco Show: Ok, I like them again ...
I just saw them this past wednesday in Columbus, OH. Thought I had to work but ended up getting the night off so I didn't get tickets until last week. My brother and I had two seats in the last row of the Wexner Center. Our tickets actuallly said "LR" Well, the Dethols play, didn't really enjoy them...

Re: What can we do to improve the music scene?
I think the initial question being asked here is way to vague for any meaningful discussion. I think what you are going for is "How do we get rid of MTV, commercial radio, greedy record labels, etc.?" Sure, there is some crap out there, but I choose to ignore it for the most part. This kind of thing...

Reamp through headphones?
Anyone ever done this? Reamp something through a pair of headphones and mic it? I found an old pair of huge cheap radio shack headphones that sound somewhat cool in a lo-fi way. I don't know, probably a stupid and useless idea, but food for thought nonetheless...

Re: Portable recording.
Marantz makes CDR recorders and a flash card recorder with two built-in preamps. I use the flash card recorder (PMD-670) every so often at work, really handy portable recorder, somewhat pricey though
