Anybody have experience using the 3G or the Layla with a lesser powered Mac?

If I wanted to go a little more "whole hog" would one of the Echo products work with my pedestrian G4? The Layla recommends a G5 but says it will work with older systems. Anybody have any real experience with this? $500 sounds good for a new product that might actually have some support.

I would probably go up to $500. I would like something that would be usefu for a while and which I could expand around, i.e. a Firewire unit. Am I being unrealistic?
